The Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Queens, NY, held a Chinese Auction last week which was coupled with a festive meal honoring the bochurim who participated in a learning and good behavior campaign.
The ones bidding in the auction –over items such as a Firebird Men’s Quartz Watch, Sodastream maker and Chabad seforim– were the bochurim themselves.
Participants of a Mivtza in honor of the Rebbe’s birthday on 11 Nissan were required to learn the Rebbe’s sichos and letters and set aside time to learn and keep a Chassidishe manner during the Pesach vacation.
Tickets for the Chinese Auction were acquired based on the amount of learning each of the 65 bochurim in the yeshiva has done, earning them more ‘auction dollars.
Following the afternoon Seder, they eagerly loaded the buses and heading out to the beautifully set hall of the Utopia Jewish Center of Queens. As they came in, they viewed the prizes and purchased their tickets, after which they sat down for a Seudah.

Rabbi Mendel Scharf, Menahel of Yeshiva, addressed the bochurim and praised them for their hard work during Bein Hazmanim, noting how parents thanked the Yeshiva for the Mivtza after seeing how their sons spent their time during Pesach.
Moshe Aharon Goldstein, a bochur in Yeshiva, then thanked the Shluchim for arranging the Mivtza and for all their hard work they put into the bochurim throughout the year.
After which, excitement filled the room as Rabbi Yisroel Lipsker, Mashpia in Yeshiva, was asked to draw the first raffle. The prizes ranged from Kuntres “Veato Tetzaveh” from the Rebbe to a set of Likkutei Sichos; from 2 Rebbe dollars to a bike; a piece of leather from the Rebbe’s Shtender to MP3s, speakers and much more.
Mendel Rodal, a cohen and the bochur who earned the most points of the entire yeshiva, was honored with leading the bentching, following which the bochurim were told they each received their very own HaYom Yom as a gift.
The banquet concluded with a grand Farbrengen led by Rabbi Yossi Engel, Shliach in Adelaide, Australia.
The Talmidim Hashluchim thanked the Hanhala, The Print House, Rabbi Yonah Avtzon of SIE, Rabbi Kogan of the Jewish Institute of Queens, Mikva Meir and Miphal HaRambam.
