Members of a Brooklyn family woke up Monday morning to find a shocking site on their home security monitor.
As CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported Monday night, the family found a masked man inside their home, just below the room where their children were sleeping. The man also had a gun.
“When the police came, we looked over the video, and suddenly, what do I see? The guy has a gun!” said burglary victim Haim Mitnizki. “It’s clear, and then I realized how lucky I was.”
Mitnizki, of Crown Heights, was sound asleep early Monday morning when the burglar broke into a rear door and entered his home.
Mitnizki is in the security business, and his home is equipped with surveillance cameras and motion detectors. They set off a piercing alarm, and woke up the house.
Mitnizki said he looked at a video feed on his laptop and spotted the intruder.
“I was yelling to my wife: ‘Call the cops! Get the kids! Protect the kids! I’m going downstairs,’” he said.
Mitnizki said he grabbed a knife for protection. But by the time he got downstairs, the burglar had fled.
This burglar was really brazen, Aiello reported. Not only did he target a house that was clearly marked as having home security, but he also broke one of the surveillance cameras as he approached the back door.
The NYPD was working to determine Monday night whether the burglary was linked to others. Meanwhile, the Shomrim, a local volunteer patrol, was warning residents.
“If you hear noises within your house, call 911 immediately,” said Mendy Hershkop of the Crown Heights Volunteer Patrol. “Do not try to confront the perpetrator.”
Mitnizki’s company is offering a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the man who stole some money, some business papers, and the family’s sense of security.
Phone rang because the alarm central station called the house to verify the alarm signals that was received
Also who called his home(phone) to get him the
Awareness to run…he sure hears the landline
PHONE RINGING HE HAS THE SIGNAL
TO ESCAPE
Add a DOG to your security system. It barks AND bites!
First of all it’s education, not a rant. Secondly, long gun and shotgun permits for home defense are actually quite easily obtained by anyone without a criminal history. The NYPD department which deals with it can be reached at (718) 520-9300, it’s in Queens.
the video cant be more clear then that!!!!! it was night time in the dark!!!!! show me other cameras that can get better footage then this! and what if the guy wore his mask way before entering the area?!
Bh the story ended the way it did. The gemarah sais that people go crazy when they see their money/posesions being squandered. And then they will do something silly like bring a knife against someone armed with a gun. (Which is why halacha says; one may preempt and take the life of an intruder, because we assume that the victim will attack the intruder and when the intruder defends himself the victims life will be in danger…) But, the lesson for us is that most robbers want money, not lives, is not worth risking one’s life to save money. my house also has safezone24. its very clear!

LINCOLN
it took them 20 minutes
-the intruder had a gun, but was scared away
10…well stated….thank you…if you do get a gun….make sure its secured away from under age people . Also have all adults in the home, trained in proper use of firearms.
if he wasn’t, he would’ve ran
FOR SOMEONE IN THE INDUSTRY ..IF HE HAD AN ALARM THAT WENT OFF AS LOUD AS THE SHABOSS ALARM THIS MAN WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY RAN FOR HIS LIFE AND THE VIDEO WOULD HAVE BEEN A JOKE ON THE ROBBER.
a carry permit is nearly impossible,
quit spreading false hoods,
its under $600/2year license
What street is this house on?
What are you suggesting? You can’t get a permit for anything in NYC, and you know that. So what was the point of the rant?
Thank you for sharing your story and warning others that’s what we all must do warn our neighbors and friends
I want to offer my thanks to the RBS”O for bestowing his bountiful mercy on Chaim and his family and letting this incident come to a (B”H!) favorable conclusion. Let me also say that this should be great advertising for the sofer who wrote his Mezuzos and the Tzedakah for the Mosdos whom he supports. That said, we know the how important the “Inyan” of not relying on miracles is, and what the Torah specifically says about what happens when a thief breaks into your house (Parshas Mishpatim; Eim B’amachteres Yimatzei Ha’Gannav…. Kol Ha’Bah L’ha’arog Hashkeim L’Horrgo…..for those who need… Read more »
