A brand-new playground for neighborhood kids is in the works at Lincoln Terrace Park, according to the Parks Department.
A complete renovation of the Crown Heights playground will include new play equipment, replanted trees and flowers, as wells as a new entrance, ramp, sitting area and 4-foot gate around the Rochester Avenue play area, according to a design plan shared with Brooklyn Community Board 8 this month.
The agency presented the design of the $3 million project to the board’s parks committee last week and the full board approved the plan on June 9. But it could be up to two years before the renovation is complete. Current estimates from the Parks Department have construction set to begin in 2017.
The new playground will have two distinct areas for toddlers and grade-school kids, the design plan says, complete with interactive “wave climbers” — small humped climbing fixtures decorated with chalkboards and mirror panels — for the younger children and more traditional jungle gym play sets with rope ladders and slides for older kids.
The space will also include a water feature for kids of all ages, made from a spray shower fixture shaped like a large stem and leaf. Two sets of children’s swings are also planned for the space.
For parents and guardians, the playground will have new tables and chairs and a rain garden in a small plaza on the southeast corner of the space, the plan says.
The project is funded by the City Council and the borough president’s office, the Parks Department said. To find out more, visit the online project timeline.
Lucky son I have! A. For going to Ohr Menachem. B. For having Rochester park…
Is it safe from bacteria? What are they doing with the slides and monkey bars?
i think it will be destroyed very quickly if there is no security
I really hope after all that money, and time that the park will be closed for the renovation, that it’s an improvement.
They spent the last year, or more, working on half of Rutland park, and it’s quite a disappointment. A lot of wasted space and possibility.
It is so not safe My child almost fell off the play area many times!!
The playground is old, rundown and way too small. It’s packed every day and there’s no room for the kids to play. A lot of young families live in that part of Crown Heights and bring their kids to that park.
I think the playground is more important than the hand ball courts and the oversized playing field.
that’s where they play!
Best park in CH will now be even better!
