There are many ways within minhag Yisroel to name after someone. This includes things like naming from male to female and vica versa, using things like, similar in lettering, similar in sound, similar in meaning. There are also instinces where it is appropriate to name after someone but with a shinuy. Those who are familiar with these inyonim (and there are seforim on the subject, like Ziv Hashaimos) will recognize that for a reason it makes good sense to name him after his nickname. His name is Yehuda. Thats how its written on his “matzeivah”.
So I guess Leib was his nickname.

yes, even though his name was yehuda, he was affectionately known as “leiby”, and surely the parents of newborn had this in mind when naming the child. May Laiby’s a’h neshomo have an aliya, and may the parents raise this baby l’torah chupa umaisim toivim, with much gezunt and nachas!

leib is yiddish for yehuda and very often people interchange those names
