The 26 contenders of A Jewish star singing competition are giving a last push as the voting stage is nearing completion.
Sunday, January 24, will be the last day to vote on the music talent contest that generated buzz in the Jewish music industry and in communities worldwide.
While some were active on Facebook and opened a fan group, most are using email and the phone to generate votes for their audition.
Thousands have watched and commented on the online auditions and rated each singer as they watched auditions on AJewishStar.com.
After voting ends, the top vote-getters will be reviewed by the contest judges, who will choose three finalists.
Three finalists will be announced February 4, G-d willing.
The finalists will each perform live at the Soul II Soul Concert on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Brooklyn School for Music & Theatre, 883 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and will sing a duet onstage with Jewish music superstar Avraham Fried, in addition to a free session with Neshoma Orchestra.
The cash prize was generously sponsored by Farkish Financial Group.
“If I win or not, this amazing idea has already jump started my music career and I will forever be thankful,” one contender wrote to the contest organizers, Chasdei Soul II Soul and COLlive.com.

Gorgeous voice with a wide range, Yermi Udkoff has class, style and looks. And all without studio shtick. The others are good, but they aren’t distinctive like this.

It’s almost impossible to decide! Yermi Udkoff has an amazing voice and range and smooth – I was blown! Also w/o any background music to smooth it out. Avremel Blesofsky – awesome, powerful and smooth. Gershon Shapiro – smooth,excellent range & strong. Ohayon, smooth, soothing, great range. Nissen Brenenson also very good , nice range and could go where others can’t.
I didn’t even hear all of them. How could the judges decide… WOW!
Yermi Udkoff has the appeal quality- – that’ what makes him a star. He sings without music or video fluff. People notice & remember him, listen over & over, he gets job & marriage offers, etc- any of the others are ok for #2 , but they’re all the same old same old & not memorable.

why does it not include children? I personally know a few child prodigees wich would really love to to do this and have loads of talent to back it! maybe next year you could choose 2 adult and 2 children (or differently)but allowing children to show there talents could really add to this competition! I really like this competition and hatzlacha to all the particapants!

Yermi Udkoff – Definitely #1-the best looking, the best voice, the best choice! (c’mon, who else got job offers and marriage proposals in their comments!!) Others sound ok, but aren’t distinctive & use studio gimmicks.
i think everyone should only vote for the person if he has a good voice, and dont judge them by the video the make along with it, because that wouldnt e fair and also i dont think the judges are judging them by thier beautifull videos they do along with it, i mean at least i think thats what they said at the beginging of this contest, that they are not judging by the video

i am sure listening to most of them in shul, would be allright.
but only 2 or 3 are really voices to sell.
I would put Stiefel as number one, his voice would sell not only to the typicial MBD or fried voice clients, its rich and powerfull, its a real good voice. Ohayon is pleasant to the ear, and i am sure can be a good singer, although its hard to tell with all music in the back…
yet I don’t believe that the judges will read this and go by what is written here…..
Knowing the judges they will simply choose the best VOCAL performars.

Stiefel and the older Blesofsky have great voices too but they won’t end up being great chassidic pop artists Steifel can be a $100k a year chazan and Blesofsky senior can teach lubavitcher niggunim to non lubavitch crowds

Shmuli Stiefel is way #1. Most of the others are copycats of singers, or they play an instrument, but with a voice that needs a lot of help, or they are comedians but not singers. Go check out Shmuli Stiefel and you’ll hear the difference, the notes he reaches… a pleasure to listen to! None of the the other guys would try such a song cuz they’d never get there!
