CROWN HEIGHTS – The 71st Precinct is hoping that increased foot patrols will help deter cell phone robberies in Crown Heights.
Police sources say exposed smartphones in Crown Heights have led to a major increase in grand larceny. So far in 2012, the 71st Precinct has almost 500 reports of grand larceny, up almost 65 percent from the same time last year. Police say people are most vulnerable when exiting a bus or a subway station.
News 12 Brooklyn was told that Utica Avenue near Eastern Parkway is a major hot spot for the thefts because of all the public transportation.

I saw 3 black men smash my daughter’s car on Yom Kippur in broad daylight.Put hand thru window and grab bag.I flagged down 3 different police and told them to drive down PresidentSt and would catch them.No cop even cared and did nothing. What good are patrols?

unlike in previouse years, there is a marked shift for the better by today’s 71st prct,
especially during the day time hours when the officers are even more disciplined than the ones at night shift,
since the day shift is when commander Lewis is around & about
re Ticket or other abuse, we need keep our surveillance camera up & running! this goes a long way towards thwarting abuse by thuggish-cops & ordinary criminals

Pardon me but I am a proud resident of Utica Ave for 20 years and just happen to be white and Jewish along with other white and Jewish residents in the diverse side of Crown Heights. This happens to be one of the busiest thoroughfares in Brooklyn. And to No 1, please stop living in a box think that you are the only people that exist and should get police presence. They only beef up patrols for cell phone robberies. What about Bochurim, housewives & kids getting mugged? As long as they are JEWISH victims, no more cops are put on patrol. Now BLACKS are getting robbed, so they have to do something.
