Teachers of Oholei Torah Educational Institute in Crown Heights received this week an appreciative gift in honor of Chanukah.
A total of $30,000 was given in bonuses to the educational faculty of the large Chabad boys school ahead of the holiday break in what has been called an annual tradition.
The gift was a contribution by philanthropist and businessman R’ Yossi Popack and his wife Batsheva and the active group of Oholei Torah PTA (Parent-Teacher Association).
“Mr. Popack, together with the PTA, did not forget the unique message of Chanukah, which is Chinuch – that young kinderlach should learn and live the Torah,” the school said.
Monetary gifts are given each year Chanukah to teachers and morahs. This year, the PTA sponsored the Chanukah gelt for the Mesivta and administrative members.
Oholei Torah Director Rabbi Sholom Rosenfeld, who coordinated this year’s bonuses, thanked the PTA for their ongoing efforts and the excitement they bring to the school, “including the recent Chanuka show which was enjoyed by the elementary division.”
The Popacks will be given the “Builders of Torah” award at the upcoming Annual Oholei Torah Dinner on March 20 by Executive Director Rabbi Joseph Rosenfeld.
Popack has sponsored the newly built Popack Kindergarten Building in East Flatbush, the new facilities in the elementary department, and the renovation of the Gymnasium, initiated by the Oholei Torah PTA, which is in its final stages of completion.

I am constantly blown away with the extreme devotion and dedication that both Rabbi Rosenfeld Sr. And jr. Have toward the institution. They are always looking for ways to improve the school as well as making sure the students and staff alike are well taken care of. Even in his ripe age (May Hashem bless him to have only healthy happy years till one twenty; as chassidishe, yiddishke nachos from his family) Rabbi Rosenfeld emits such care and concern for every last detail that is involved in the running of such a large school (bli ayin haraa).
