Wednesday marked the first day of the learning schedule offered to Chabad Yeshiva bochurim that will be spending the upcoming month of Tishrei 5777 in New York.
A tradition in Chabad, young visitors spend Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur and even Sukkos at Lubavitch Headquarters 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn and at the Rebbe‘s Ohel in Queens.
Hospitality, meals and programming are arranged for them by the Vaad Hatmimim organization in cooperation with the Yeshivos. Local residents assist with covering financial costs and accommodations.
The first event held for the guests was a farbrengen at the Crown Heights Kollel with Rabbi Michoel Seligson, Mashpia in Beis Medrash Oholei Torah in Crown Heights and author of Maftechos Toras Rabeinu.
He recalled memories of Rosh Hashana spent with the Rebbe over the years and emphasized the importance of utilizing the auspicious time and location to spiritually strengthen themselves for the coming year.
“The Rebbe reminded the guests that they didn’t come here for touring or reading newspapers but for learning and davening,” he said, adding that “the Rebbe focused on each individual, although there were thousands of people” present during Tishrei.
A second program was a two-hour in-depth shiur delivered by Rabbi Yoel Kahn, the preeminent Chabad scholar and head reviewer of the Rebbe’s teachings. He explained the essence of Rosh Hashana according to Chassidus.
Thank you to the Vaad Hatmimim for all of the beautiful programs that you arrange.
I will forever be indebted to you for helping me grow in my hiskashrus during this important time.
BSD, All I can say is- Boruch HaShem, Thank G-d for Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim, for Lubavitcher Yehivos.
