It may not be the best phraseology, but it’s the best term as of yet coined to convey the concept that is currently being discussed. Also, blame Mendy – he’s the one that used it. If you have a better term to express this phenomenon, feel free to let us know.

I am 16, 29, 33, and 36
March 29, 2012 1:31 pm

to 41 yeah that explains myself as well..i KNOW what is right and wrong and i definitely strive not to these things which may not be the best for growth, but i’m also not perfect, yet! 😉 lol. i mean i don’t see a major issue with some of it but yeah it’s probably best to cut out non Jewish books and cut out spending leisurely time doing things that don’t have much to do with Yiddishkeit, but it’s not so easy. and to 42, you are correct. many people think this way so just this fact isn’t enough, although… Read more »

I’ve often thought the same thing about commenters on here/online in general 🙂 However, didn’t you see from what she said ( assuming that she’s also #s 29 and 16 ) that it’s many/most girls that think like that, so I wouldn’t say that that’s enough to go on.

#38: It’s not so simple. Firstly, I know it’s not a good thing in and of itself. I’m not making excuses, so no confusion on my part. Secondly, I’m not saying that I will always read books and that it’s a forgone conclusion, I’ll likely not have the time/interest once I get married and be more busy with more important things to do. My parents, in fact, don’t read books anymore. Also, there was no lack of guidelines as a child, rather, my parents gradually became lubavitch and when I was young I would not have classified them as “chasidish”… Read more »

What you describe as an asset is, in fact, a liability. The reason for BT’s children’s confusion, labeled as “with it”, is precisely because of the lack of guidance their parents had while educating their kids. Reading secular books instill goyshe hanochos, regardless of the conditions under which they were read, i.e., as a rebelious or subservant child. But it is all in the way you pack it: call it pre-owned instead of “used”, militant instead of terorist, chasidish but with it instead of confused.

To 36
March 29, 2012 3:39 am

My point was not that FFB kids of BTs are the only ones that can enjoy these things; rather, we’re the ones that could still be considered chasidish, and and land in the category of “chasidish but with it”. If an FFB kid does it, it’s rebellion. It’s not necessarily a strong rebellion (that would depend on the particulars), but it shows they’re on the way down. That removes the chasidish part of “chasidish but with it”. A more extreme and clear example would be cholov yisroel. I a lubavitcher stopped keeping it, then they would be considered on the… Read more »

well i never really thought about it. not sure why it would specifically be FFB children of BT’s..I mean that’s where I fit into also so maybe that is the answer..but I know people who are FFB that enjoy “leisurely” things as well but i guess only to a certain extent..hmmmm

I'm #32
March 28, 2012 7:09 pm

Some parts were more coherent than others 🙂 Anyways, I think it has to do with when you become a BT. My parents were mid-late 20’s and it was a gradual process; not teens that jumped into it overnight. So, things like that are usually some of the later things to go, especially if you live in a community other than CH with a large percentage being BTs. You seem to agree with my point about FFBs being considered rebellious for doing that, but not necessarily those of us that are kids of BTs. I’m not sure which category you… Read more »

i didnt realy get it…….. but i guess im just slooow…….

to 32
March 27, 2012 9:32 pm

Yeah well if a BT wanted that there could be an issue..I guess it depends to what extent but if they are taking on so many things and changing their lives in such an extreme way they may want to do everything “right” and not do these “things” or maybe they want to keep some of their “normalcy” and stick with these secular, but not necessarily bad, “things.” But on the other hand some may say if someone FFB is looking for this it’s also an issue because they probably didn’t grow up this way so in some form it… Read more »

March 27, 2012 7:06 pm

Nope. That’s closest to how I’d classify myself and is what I’m looking for (I’m a guy). Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s mostly FFB kids of BTs that tend to fall into and are looking for someone in this category. Like I grew up allowed to read non-jewish books (i.e. not as a rebellious thing) but didn’t have a tv at home.

women don’t mess up!! it’s usually the guy

SO TRUE..BUT IS IT RIGHT??
March 26, 2012 10:28 am

“Chassidish but with it” that’s what SO MANY people are looking for these days. I know my take on it, I mean it makes sense, but wondering what others think. Is it wrong to want someone who is “with” the material world, and likes to do “fun” things? I can see why it would be “wrong”-it’s goyish, and doesn’t necessarily help one’s growth at all, but at the same time I myself, along with many of my friends, are looking for someone like that. What do you think????? Have we become to involved in the material world or is it… Read more »

Now lets see some funny clips where the women mess up?

a good laugh
March 26, 2012 8:47 am

I don’t want to say – but I just burst out laughing when I saw Mendy washing the dishes and does everything and then the wife comes home, sees him sleeping on the couch – with a book on shalom bayis open on his lap! Don’t often laugh out loud like that.

Chassidish and with it...
