Today marks the sixth anniversary of the death of Ilan Ramon, the Israeli astronaut who perished when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere, killing all seven astronauts on board.
On the occasion of his yahrtzeit COLlive presents a documentary that aired at the first anniversary of his passing, about what led to the explosion and depicting moving moments that defined Ilan Ramon’s life as a Jew and an astronaut.
The video includes footage of Ramon’s wife explaining what she felt when her husband departed on the mission, mentioning that Chabad was in attendance, singing “Oseh Shalom.”
Ilan Ramon is remembered as a Jewish hero; he had made arrangements to take Kosher food with him on the shuttle, and he also took along a Kiddush cup and a copy of the Torah.
