It was the biggest social event of the decade. Everyone who was anybody was there. And we mean literally EVERYBODY.
Everyone you knew from school, all your old neighbors, and the family members who you never thought you’d see again. Yes, that’s right. Every seven years at Hakhel, the Jewish people as a whole gathered together. We mean, you probably couldn’t even walk ten steps without bumping into someone you knew and having to go through the motions again.
One-armed hug, (other arm clutching child). Air kiss on both cheeks. “How are you? I haven’t seen you in aaaaaaages!” Requisite questions about family and mutual friends. Apology for being in such a rush and for whiny kids tugging at you. Wave and departing words as you are dragged off into the crowds.
Let’s try to make THAT happen again this year, for Hakhel 5776. But this time, with selfies.
The International Hakhel Event for Lubavitch women is taking place in but a few short days.
On Purim Koton, Yud-Daled Adar, February 23rd, Lubavitch women will be gathering in over 50 cities, spanning 15 countries and 6 continents! It first began as a thought and quickly morphed into a huge production. Since the summer we have been reaching out to Lubavitch communities worldwide. Thanks to whatsapp and email groups, what began as 15 cities, soon turned to 36 then 40 and now over 50 with more cities joining! We were happy to share all marketing tools with our sisters globally. Ideas, fliers, logo, promo video and more. What better way for Lubavitch women worldwide to unite then through an International Hakhel Event? During the 24 hours of Purim Katan each city will be hosting their over hakhel event. 24 hours of unity, achdus and kinship!
Are you going to be there? ‘Cuz all your friends are…! Book your babysitter, choose your outfit and plan who you are going with. Think of it as your sister’s wedding, plus your youngest brother’s bar mitzvah, plus your parent’s 50th anniversary. You wouldn’t miss it for the world!
