Several stores in the Crown Heights were recently scammed out of more than $1200 by an unsuspecting Jewish woman, COLlive.com has learned.
The woman, whose real name isn’t known, has been making purchases at the neighboorhood’s Jewish-owned stores and paying with fraudulent checks.
At least 3 checks, each written for $400, were used as payment to the stores Kahan’s Superette and Little Toes on Kingston Avenue and Shimmy’s Kosher Town on Albany Avenue.
Surveillance footage has revealed to the store managers that it was the same person who was repeatedly using fake checks and credit cards which were later discovered to have been stolen – each under different names. One of the names used was Konstantinos G. Kamvisis.
A police report has not been filed yet.
In most cases, a “bad” check charge is a B Misdemeanor charge and carries up to 90 days in jail, according to nydefenselawyer.org. In addition to jail time and fines, victims can sue in civil court seeking compensation up to 3 times the value of the original check.

The store should ask for id for any purchase of hundred dollars or more.
She does not have to be a goy there are criminals that are Jewish to, and if you are going to use a credit card the store owners in crown heights should ask for a picture to make sure it you

I’m sure you’d have mercy to a woman who MIGHT be Jewish and robs you of $400. Mercy has nothing got to do with, they’re warning people to be wary.

The name on the check is clearly Green in origin! That should have set some alarm bells off in the Crown Heights shops. I mean what frum woman would have a Greek name?!!
Furthemore – the article states that the WOMAN was unsuspecting…when in fact it was the shop clerks who were unsuspecting of the perp!

There’s a woman who lived in CH a couple of years ago (she may have moved on) who is an expert in credit card fraud. Maybe she graduated.

crown heights stores will take any checks made out to anyone from anyone. It is their fault.
I once made out a check to an individual. It was made out to the person’s name, not to cash. It was then passed on to one of the butcher stores, who passed it on to a make up artist who passed it on to her child’s tutor.
How is this ok? How are ppl so willing to take a check that is not made out to them?!

Why would anyone accept a check from a stranger, did she show ID to match the name on the check, did she ask for change, even with a credit card many stores ask for ID to match name on card.
