Chabad Ashkelon’s store for the needy, Mercaz HaChesed, was host this week to several volunteers from the US.
Mercaz HaChesed is located in a bunker and lost all of the merchandise collected by its director, Rabbi Sharon Ochayon, during the last war when the bunker was opened to residents as protection from the rocket fire from Gaza.
The volunteers brought with them quality clothing from America as well as numerous boxes of new shoes donated by WIZO (Women’s International Zionist Organization), just in time for Pesach.
Many of Ashkelon’s poorer families rely on the clothing they can find at Mercaz HaChesed to have something nice to wear for the Seder.
However following the loss of all of their goods, this year they have sadly been turning people away. Now with the donation of some clothing and shoes, Chabad Ashkelon hopes to bring some joy to the lives of some of the underprivileged of the city.
This past week two hundred pupils of the local Or Menachem school enjoyed a special day as they were taught how to mix the right amount of flour and water to prepare Matzah.
