Some 25 members of the Crown Heights Jewish community gathered on a recent summer evening in a local backyard garden to sample wines and enjoy a fine Mediterranean meal.
The event was organized and hosted by David Babinet, a chazzan and resident who is the founder of an exclusive fine wine making community project located in Crown Heights.
Unsatisfied with what he called “the soulless, mass-produced and overpriced wine” on the market, Babinet and a group of other young men started making wine in 2009.
“Making high-end wine with grapes sourced from the most exclusive vineyards can come at high price but by all participating financially and physically, we have been able to make excellent wines for a reasonable price,” he said.
In addition to the food and inspiring conversation, music for the event was provided by musicians Arturo Martinez and Avram Pengas.

great food, great atmosphere, everyone in CH should try a bottle or two.
I have been enjoying Davi’s wine for several year and being French I am not that easy to please. Davi’d Cabernet is outstanding.
was there this a great outing and great wine wonderful ambiance.im pretty much hooked.
David, we should talk marketing. Did you know that your Cabernet rhymes with your last name? I think its very funny to say a “Babernet Cabernet” after you drink a bottle.
I want to acknowledge our great photographer Leizer Krivenkov for all the awesome pictures.
The event, prior to the three weeks, was started with a D’vara Torah, and their was a minyan for Mincha and Maariv. David Babinet introduced a great new kosher wine and the event accompanied by a wonderful seudah followed by bentching. Everyone enjoyed the wine and the event.
I wish you much success. It’s really a novel idea
Dovid is very good at his trade.
