he is wearing a tie because he was “promoting” and signing he’s book. (BTW he did tastings all those wines waay before the public came in and then he wasnt wearing a tie)
..and i’ve been with him in other official wine tastings, he and other known wine criticts didnt waer tie.
If You Want To Wear One (or anybody else for that manner) are more then welcome there are no rules, these are just suggestions.

You dont wear ties on wine tastings !!! wine can easily drip on it.
for the same reason professionals dont wear light colored clothing.
