Wilkes-Barre Smicha Tested

Last week, the smicha bochurim of Wilkes-Barre were tested on Basar Vechalav by Rabbi Gavriel Tzinner, one of the leading Poskim in our generation. After the test, he remarked to the Rosh Hasmicha, Rabbi Mendel Zirkind, “Your group is sharp and well-versed in every area they were tested…”

In addition to the regular learning of the material most study, the Wilkes-Barre smicha bochurim have learned the Alter Rebbe’s and Tzemach Tzedek’s Psakim on Basar Vechalav. Rabbi Tzinner expressed great satisfaction with the knowledge they displayed above and beyond the norm.

The smicha program in Wilkes-Barre is under the auspices of Uri Perlman, founder of the Yeshiva Bais Menachem, a Yeshiva based on the concept of applying chassidus and developing the individual skills and talents of each bochur.

Over the past few years, it has expanded to include the option for a course of higher learning, as bochurim grow from within the system.

Rabbi Mendel ZIrkind of Crown Heights, who received his smicha from the rigorous program Machon Chaim in Melbourne as well as other programs, took the position of Rosh Smicha in order to help these bochurim attain a comprehensive understanding of the material and develop their skills in learning, as well as focus on their own personal self-growth. Their hard work has not only paid off in their own studies, but also in adding to an atmosphere of inspiration for the other bochurim in the Yeshiva to truly reach their full potential in their learning and direction in life.
