In an upcoming all-new episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on the OWN channel, Oprah Winfrey visits the chassidic Jewish communities of Borough Park and Crown Heights.
A press release for the show called it “unprecedented access inside one of America’s most tight-knit and mysterious cultures.”
In what is bound to be a kiddush hashem on February 12, Winfrey learns about the daily life according to halacha and the intense spiritual devotion, including raising children with no TV and movies.
As reported on COLlive.com, Winfrey sat at the dining room table with a Chabad family of 12 and met one of the few black chassidic Jewish families in the country.
Oprah says she’s wanted to interview a chassidic Jewish family for years.
In a promo for the show, Rabbi Aaron Ginsburg (the Shliach in Boro Park) and his wife Shterna Sara Ginsburg (daughter of Crown Heights Rabbi Yaacov Schwei) explain why they agreed to talk.
Then Oprah conducts a first ever, no holds barred interview with four chassidic mothers and wives, and gets a rare tour of the Chabad Mikvah in Brooklyn Heights.

i grew up in a small city, chabad shliach alway had goyim over, no chiddush here, so i agree with #15 above; and #12 above too – what does boro park and other non-chabad chassidim have to do with this? this is just another chabad shliach in the public, unlike the other chassidim who indeed are not in the public.

I just read in the recent ‘Chayeinu’ (‘Chayenu’ is wrong spelling) under the subject: ‘Geulah’ that the reason for the exile is “Only so that they would acquire converts…”
It looks like this is happening…’Halevi’ these interviews show the great and profound wisdom of ‘The Torah’ to enhance people’s lives, bring them closer to G-d, and save lives…’davke.’
it seems mis-leading that the article’s keep referring to chassidim and boro park, when this is really a chabad stunt; the other chassidim likely would keep their lives private, yet the article(s) I have seen keep referring to this as chassidim in general – and they seem to think because the chabad shliach to boro park is being interviewed, he represents other chassidim and boro park – when in at least some level – he does not.
Shame we cannot view this in the UK, not even the clips on here, would love to see this, as I am sure Oprah enjoyed it, and was very respectful, hope we get to see it 🙂
