we are all missing the point of the article….
keep your pictures, hang it on your wall… but recognize that this is not what Chabad and Chassidus are about!!
If the Rebbes with us everywhere, way back of Likutei Sichos 17, whats so bad about a reminder?
I remember Rabbi Halberstam used to photograph anyone on the dollars line who asked for a picture with the Rebbe. Pictures of chasidim on the dollars with the Rebbe were standard in every Chabad home.
a picture of the rebbe is like the Moshel of the alter rebbe regarding Tanya: that the kings crown main jem should be ground hoping that at least one drop will get in!!!! If only you would have the aidelkiet to understand what a pic if the rebbe can do!! Al derech the rebbe told someone by dollars that the shoe he has thrown at the rebbes picture still hurts the rebbe be’gashmiut. Ve’dal.
One more picture story: when asked which picture of the Rebbe to use for an in the press, the replied to Rabbi Krinsky: it should be a picture where the Rebbe is smiling.
I never knew this. Great article.
The Rebbe did wear a watch.
I heard this first hand from someone who was there in 5750
especially because Rebbe pictures are given out so much in camps as prizes etc.
this is the Rebbe speaking to Rabbi Kastel at Reb Binyomin Levitins wedding. It is printed also in Mekadesh Yisroel, though this one is much clearer.
found it really interesting
although they finally found a really random factor to compare and contrast the two Rebbes.
it is disrespectful to put a picture of rebbeim and rebetzins on every flier!!! most of these end up on the ground and in the garbage! the flier will do the same job without the picture!!
its very possible as we see the rebbe at times said very sharp comments but im sure the rebbe did it in a respectful way
yr 100 % right
I don’t believe the rebbe would tell R LY Freidin “I myself saw him talking during krias hatorah”
We like the line, “Chabad is 200 years old and I am only 68.”
I guess the Rebbe would be glad that we only have 2 pictures of him in the house – one big one in the living room and one little on in the kids room (we didn’t know where to put it or what to do with it and then it got asked for).
If u look in mekadesh Yisrael there are 2 or three pictures of the rebbe wearing a watch
In America is Nisht Andresh- collection of films of the Freidiker Rebbe, when the Friediker Rebbe accepts oath of citizenship inside 770, our Rebbe is shown wearing a watch.
the Rebbe did wear a watch in the earlier years, but IMHO it’s not the person is not the Rebbe
of course it is the Rebbe. The Rebbe did wear a watch before Nesius.
Interesting point about too many pictures minimizing respect to the Rebbe. I have left a message at the office of a particular mosad, which i dont want to shame in public, to the following effect, but never saw any changes made: when fliers for yud shvat etc. come in the mail, I come home, find my mail, including the Rebbe’s picture sitting on the floor after having been put through the mail slot!! And when pictures are put on posters in the street, where do they end up? Wet and soggy on the ground, and then in the garbage!! We… Read more »
Under the fifth photo the following caption appears:
“The Lubavitcher Rebbe covers his face as a photographer tries to capture his photo”.
This is not of photo of the Rebbe; the Rebbe didn’t wear a watch!
Thank you!
very interesting read, but I’m shocked that an article about photographing the Rebbe did not have ONE single mention of S. Roumani who photographed arguably the most famous picture of the Rebbe ever, at Lag Baomer parade waving by the shtender.
This article is fascinating 🙂
