Izzy Ezagui, an American-born one-armed squad commander in the Israel Defense Forces, shared this past summer what inspired him to started lighting Chanukah candles again.
He was speaking at the National Jewish Retreat in Washington, DC, after being presented the Jewish Hero Award.
An IDF paratrooper who returned to combat after a serious injury, Ezagui received the award in recognition of his courage, fortitude, Jewish pride, and heroic commitment to Am Yisroel.
After accepting the award on behalf of all IDF heroes, Ezagui shares a moving Chanukah story that happened to him.
