by Rabbi Doron Aizenman
In 1990, just before Yud Aleph Nissan, I had the privilege of participating in the Machane Yisrael Development Fund group yechidus. When I introduced our supporters, Mr. and Mrs. Shaul and Elaine Levy, to the Rebbe, I introduced them as the sponsors of the Chabad of Myrtle Beach, SC, public Pesach seder. In those first years, Shaul covered the costs of us renting out a ballroom at the Kingston Plantation resort for the general community Seder. Our family stayed there for the rest of the first days of the holiday.
The Rebbe, without missing a beat, asked, “And what’s with the rest of the holiday?” Mrs. Levy answered that she would be inviting everyone for the second night.
The Rebbe looked at me and said, “There should be a way that someone who wants to keep kosher will be able to get kosher for Passover food.” Then the Rebbe said, “Yes, they should register ahead of time, but kosher food should be available.”
Then the Rebbe continued to talk about other issues.
This year we will fulfill the Rebbe’s directive in the best way we can.
