Potatoes - since 1492

Potatoes are a food from the “New World.” Before Columbus, Europe did not have potatoes. Fried dough, however, is a Sefardik food. The other customary Chanukah food is dairy and cheese, to honor Yehudis.

The reason they ate potato latkes is becuase in Russia all they had were a few pototates and oil so they fried it

Chanukah jews are not only ashkenazim that come from potatoes countries… Lol. Fried doughnuts are as a custom as fried latkes!! Happy chanukah

The Minhag Yisroel from many generations was that Chanukah Jews ate Potato Latkes.

However this new custom of donuts on Chanukah is only a modern custom since the establishment of the State of Israel
