Over 100 people turned out to say their goodbyes to the bochurim of Yeshiva Beis Menachem of Western Monmouth County in New Jersey, known as the Manlapan Semicha Program.
The event highlighted the impact that the yeshiva students had on the community throughout this past year. The rabbinical ordination institute incorporates learning with practical experience in mivtzoim, and community leadership.
Directed by Rabbi Levi Schapiro, smicha is given by Kfar Chabad Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Ashkenazi, who comes especially from Israel to test them.
They receive shiurim from visiting rabbonim, and hands-on learning in a variety of other areas of Halacha, such as Mikvaos, Shatnez, Gittin, and Kiddushin and even visits to various kosher slaughterhouses and food production facilities.
In addition to their own learning, the bochurim arranged a Tuesday night Mishmar program for local children, visited over 100 businesses on Fridays, and had one-on-one learning with locals on Monday and Thursday evenings.
The bond that the locals have made with the students was evident at the farewell event where members of the community expressed how the bochurim impacted their lives.
