Hundreds of women gathered on Motzei Shabbos to mark two years since the founding of the Shifra and Puah organization of Crown Heights, which assists women in the community who have recently given birth.
The Melava Malka meal at Lubavitch Yeshiva honored the volunteers who work throughout the year to prepare breakfasts and provide housekeeping and other assistance to new mothers.
The event began with MC Ms. Levitin, who read letters of appreciation from thankful mothers who had received help from the organization.
Rabbi Leibel Groner, the Rebbe’s secretary, gave a Dvar Torah and told stories of the Rebbe, and Mrs. Sarah Mochkin told an inspiring personal story.
During the evening, musical entertainment was provided by Liba Farkash who performed a number of songs. A video about the activities of the Shifra and Puah organization was shown as well.
The evening continued with special thanks to all the volunteers and a raffle for a Challah cover made with a piece cloth from the Rebbe’s napkin and dollars from the Rebbe.
The event concluded with a performance by singer Ricky, who had the women dancing and singing along.
The success of the evening is thanks to organizers who worked tirelessly for the success of the event: Michal Hellman, Shlomit Slapochnik, Chani Farkash, Michla Segal and Dikla Steinmetz, and the assistance of N’Shei Chabad for Hebrew Speakers: Bracha Sternberg, Leah Hendel and Devorah Reinitz.
Shifra and Puah plans to increase aid to new mothers by sending babysitters and housekeepers to those in need. To volunteer or to donate please contact Chani Farkash, Shlomit Slapochnik, or send an email to Michal Hellman at Shifra.v.puah @ gmail.com.
It was amazing!great job!
Actually it is not only for Israelis it is for those without family here who are on their own after having a baby, there are plenty of Israelis who have Moms here who do not get these services, its based solely on volunteers, and speaking as one, when you have up to 7 mothers to deliver (or cook) breakfast(more like brunch with leftovers) in this vast neighborhood (daily)it is daunting.Thats why the fundraiser,to hopefully expand. As it stands they cant commit to more then 7 a week because it would take all day to cook and deliver to everyone
ONLY FOR ISRAELIS?????
DISCRIMINATION!!!
How true
I lived in CH all my life. I have five kids and never heard if this organization. Is it a secret?!?!? Why keep it so private?
yes never heard but great orgaz. very devoted but 2 weeks giving food too much my opinion only for the 1st week after birth good enough!!
sounds like it is really needed in ch!
that helps Israeli moms who don’t have mothers sisters or any family member to help them after having a baby! there is great demands from local moms to receive help as well, so they should def reconsider growing!!
