On Tuesday night, 28 Teves, was the initial meeting of representatives of Crown Heights Shuls to begin preparations for the election of a new Board of Directors for Crown Heights Jewish Community Council and Vaad Hakohol Deshchunas Crown Heights. The most recent election took place in 2010 and the officials elected at that time have served until now, close to 14 years.
Chairman Zaki Tamir opened the meeting and spoke of his role in moving the community forward and that the time has come to pass the mantle to a new generation of leaders. Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of ensuring that every conversation in our homes be respectful and full of Torah content. Rabbi Yosef Braun spoke of the power of a community in that it takes a multitude of individual opinions and turns them into a new entity of the opinion of the community.
An agenda was proposed to advance towards an election to be held on the Sunday after Shavuos – June 16, 2024. Three committees were formed to move the agenda forward, and many of the representatives present volunteered for the committees.
Are they also holding elections for a third rov and gabboyim?
Why was the date made for 6 months time? Why the long delay??
I was looking at comments in the regular media about this incident, and it’s just looks like here in CH we are full of hatred amongst ourselves.
Even the goyim didn’t make such a big issue about it.
They prefer real criminals creating caos in NYC behind bars, then 9 young men that digged a tunnel under 770 behind bars.
People are comparing the bochurim to criminals or terrorists who really kill, rob, etc…it’s a shame…
Just read all the comments here on COLive
And many of the people who came out with crazy ideas about the tunnels had absolutely NO problem with the Jan 6 insurrection. Now they’re excited?
The bochurim aren’t terrorists…they just don’t belong in 770 and are ruining the reputation of chabad around the world
Point #1: People had very strong reactions to what happened this week. Unfortunately, even many adults took to social media and community websites to vent their frustration. Point #2: They did it in Beis Rabeinu Shebebavel. This strikes a cord with any sensitive chassid in Lubavitch. Is it surprising that they expressed things in a strong way when the heart of chassidim was vandalized? Did you ever not express yourself beyond what you really meant because of the pain you felt? In reality. The issue is that there are cohorts of people (both Meshichist and Anti) who have been educated… Read more »
There are many women in CH who don’t have a voice. We should be able to vote as well.
How would you suggest for this to happen?
Can’t the bylaws of the CHJCC be amended if necessary, to allow women to vote in elections?
Is it against Torah to make such a change?
If not, then what’s the problem with making the necessary change to include women in the voting process?
This is the perfect response to the chaos from 770, to create more seder and structure to our community which will bring peace by having an accepted authority. May these types of efforts continue and be successful!
Does anyone in their right mind really think that if we had elected some kind of a “new vaad haholol” last week, or last month or last year” How exactly would that have prevented what happened in 770???? Be real, and don’t imagine pie in sky solutions which are totally out of reality. Boys in school have a Hanhala who is in charge of them. The only ones responsible for unruly children is the ULY administration who brings them here from Israel. Rabbonim don’t control school children Vaad Hakohol doesn’t control school children Rabbonim don’t control school children Take your… Read more »
What exactly does the Vaad Hakohol do or what are they supposed to do?
And are these things that can’t be done without them?
This looks like CH is finally getting its act together but, unfortunately, you don’t have to be a prophet to recognize that this is the beginning of some serious drama that might be better to avoid…
Replacing Rav Schwei (a”h) has taken years! Why?
