COLlive.com presents Shabbos Night Live, a weekly web class with Torah thought, chassidic stories and timely inspiration.
Presented by Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Executive Director of the Central Lubavitch Youth Organization (Tzach Hamerkazis) and a long-time columnist and radio broadcaster.
This week’s program is broadcast from the synagogue at 25 Rue des Rossier in the Jewish Pletzl area in Paris where the Rebbe davened and learned while living in France.
Rabbi Butman begins with a story the happened at the same shul and goes on to discussed Yud-Beis and Yud-Gimmel Tammuz, the days the Previous Rebbe was released from prison in Soviet Russia.
The previous Rebbe writes that it was exile not hard labor.
Wonderful sheyur enjoyed the material immensely, the story-like format gives it the mood of a Farbrengen -really inspiring. However the music is definitely overdone, for one it is a bit too loud, secondly it is a bit secular, lastly I don’t think Rabbi Butman is trying to put on a camp play.
This comment is not intended as criticism, I enjoyed the last 2 sheyurim very much, it is just meant as helpful feedback (take it or leave it as you please). Thank you for the journey to Paris for a visual of Chabad history.
appreciated it!
In my recollection, the ten years referred to in Rabbi Butman’s story (that was later annulled), was ten years of “hard labor” – not ten years of “exile”.
