We all are wondering what we can do to save lives in Eretz Yisroel. As we hear the news of soldiers going into battle and rockets falling daily, we are moved and propelled to do acts of goodness and kindness beyond what we imagined.
Sofer Avrohom Dovid Wolffe and his wife Yehudis decided to urgently dedicate themselves to this mivtzah to make a unity Torah specifically for Soldiers in IDF and the hostages. The campaign of the Rebbe to have every Jew own a letter in a unity Torah and to have “every soldier to be united with 304,805 more soldiers in one Torah”.
Yehudis was encouraged and reports: “Within 24 hours of writing letters for the hostages (from a list of 200 hostages we received), two of the hostages were released and safely back home. “

Yehudis Wolffe remembers when the Rebbe asked all Chassidim to drop what they were doing, to go out to sell letters in a unity Sefer Torah. “It was Erev Shavous and our high school principal Rabbi Tuvia Blau principal of Bais Chana of Yerushalayim announced that there will be no school today, instead and each girl must go sell letters in a unity Sefer Torah. I remember feeling uncomfortable doing this at the age of 16, however the response was very encouraging, and our requests were very well received. I vividly remember being happy and excited that random women we approached, accepted this new and unusual request, and bought letters. We were very surprised and relieved when we heard that over Yom tov The IDF sent airplanes on what seemed to be an impossible mission, to bomb the Iraqi nuclear reactor. I vividly recall how the world condemned Israel for doing this. I wondered why are the nations of the world condemning this? Are people happy to have a nuclear reactor under the control of Saddam Hussain??”
Sofer Avrohom Dovid Wolffe makes an important point: “The Rebbe put us in the front line to save Jews who were in danger with this project of selling letters in a Sefer Torah!”
Yehudit continues: “I remember clearly how The Rebbe said to work on selling letters in a unity Torah urgently, and we saw immediately in the 80’s the results of the Rebbes vision and urgent request that we drop everything so that we can sell letters in the Unity Torah, and that this would save lives!
We can only imagine what ramifications our Sefer Torah for soldiers is having now. We know the Rebbe said in 1981 and 1982, that “tragedies would be prevented if every soldier had acquired a letter in a unity Sefer Torah”. We have videos of the Rebbe saying this, and saying that “the enemy will be afraid of a soldier when they see that a soldier who is united with 304,805 more soldiers in a unity Torah, since each soldier has the power of 304,805 soldiers with them, to a degree that the enemy will be afraid to come to the battlefield!”
Since it is a big project to reach 304,805 soldiers immediately, we ask everyone to take the Rebbe’s urgent plea to heart and reach out through their contacts to protect chayalim by explaining to people the need to purchase letters in the Sefer Torah for soldiers through Bais Chana of California’s website, https://baischanaca.weebly.
Yehudit urges: “We hope that everyone will take on this project as their own shlichus to save lives! People may need encouragement to take to heart this mivtzah which is not well publicized yet. The Rebbe also used very sharp language saying the reason this mivtzah is not well known, is due to “the laziness of the Chassidim, committing to this only at their convenience”! May Hashem protect all am Yisroel and especially the Soldiers who are giving up their lives to protect us. May we have all Am Yisroel united in good health with the Geulah Shlaima immediately now!”
