This year marked 14 years since the passing of the legendary chossid Rabbi Yehuda Leib Raskin, obm, who served as the Rebbe’s shliach to Morocco for more than forty years. Concurrently to this, Rabbi Leibel and Dvonye Korf, shluchim to Los Feliz, CA are also celebrating the Bar Mitzvah of their son, Srolik Korf, a grandson of R’ Leibel Raskin.
To mark the two milestones, they commissioned the writing of a Sefer Torah which has been in the making for some time, and will be completed this Sunday, Elul 15, August 26, 2018. The Korfs are inviting friends, family and the community at large to welcome the new Torah, marching through the streets to their new Chabad center at 4640 Hollywood Boulevard, near Vermont Avenue.
Rabbi Korf remembers his late father-in-law with tremendous love and respect. “Rabbi Raskin was an inspiration to so many Chassidim and Shluchim, and to every Jew with whom he came in contact. He was a true Chosid and Mekushar to the Rebbe, a man of both courage and kindness. May his Neshama have an Aliyah. We invite friends and admirers, to share in this mitzvah in his memory, and to celebrate our son who is so excited to be sharing this moment in honor of his grandfather,” he said.
Thinking of the double meaning of the occasion, Dvonye Korf adds, “We look forward to having the community join us on this special day as we celebrate both the past and the future, honoring both the legacy of my father and the entrance of our son into adulthood. We invite everyone to join us in thanking Hashem for our son’s progress, and for all of our family’s blessings.”
The Bar Mitzvah boy Srolik has special needs, giving his Bar Mitzvah a special poignancy. “We grew as a family together as we celebrated every one of our son’s achievements. His Zaidy would be proud of his commitment to Torah and mitzvos, and it is with gratitude to Hashem and great pride that we celebrate our son by honoring his grandfather’s memory.
