Torah Marks 25th Milestone

Chabad Bentleigh and the Beis Menachem Community Centre in the south-east suburb of Melbourne in Australia marked Sunday its 25th anniversary of serving the Jewish community.

With an estimated 5000 local Jews, Shluchim Rabbi Mendel and Leah Raskin made religious services and educational programs available for young and old.

To celebrate the milestone and the many achievements, a new Torah was written and welcomed with song and music on Tammuz 15.

It was generously donated by Mr. Clive Massel and members of the community. Funds were also being raised for a new classroom, a new playground, refurbishing the kitchen and upgrading the Mikvah.

The final letters were written in the home of the Raskins, from which the procession has headed with much joy to Chabad Bentleigh.

A guest speaker at the event was Rabbi Yossi Paltiel, the Chassidus teacher from Crown Heights and host of “The Chassidishe Parsha” class on COLlive every Tuesday.

The night before, on Motzoei Shabbos Matos, Rabbi Paltiel addressed a Melave Malka at the home of Mottel Feiglin.
