Joined by hundreds from the Crown Heights community, the Lakein, Brackman, and Bension families completed a sefer Torah in memory of their parents Rabbi Shlomo and Miriam Lakein obm on Thursday.
Rabbi Lakein published the Jewish Art Calendar for three decades, revolutionizing the Jewish printing industry. Passionate about education, he founded Yeshiva Darchai Menachem, a school founded on the principle of “chanoch l’naar al pi darko.” Together with his wife, he welcomed hundreds of people to their home and was always involved in community needs.
Rabbi Lakein passed away last Shvat at the age of 67.
Approaching her 22nd yahrtzeit, Miriam Lakein is remembered for her warmth, generous spirit, and her deep connection to the Rebbe. She was passionate about her adopted community, Crown Heights, the Rebbe’s inyanim, and her 10 children.
The Siyum Sefer Torah took place at the Lakein home on Montgomery St, followed by a march to Yeshiva Darchai Menachem. Hakafos and a seuda followed at the yeshiva.

the most amazing and special family in the world with so much ahavas yisroel and hachnosas orchim may they all live to 120 with health wealth and happiness.
the best type of people you can find. they made their yichus by being the wonderful people that they were. I admire and respect them so much
I couldn’t have said that better myself!!
I still remember Mrs. Lakein’s voice on the telephone inquiring, “Is your Mommy there?”. She recruiting my willing mother for yet another shiur, another peula. She rallied the whole block tirelessly for countless good causes. And then she was gone from the block – but never from our hearts.
