History was made this Sunday afternoon in the Kowloon side of Hong Kong, China.
A new Torah scroll, donated by Isaac and Frida Kamhin and family of Hong Kong, was given to the Chabad House in Kowloon and written in fulfillment of the Torah’s final Mitzva.
The event was attended by hundreds of local and overseas friends.
Rabbi Shlomi Tabib, who directs the Chabad House along with his wife Racheli, addressed and welcomed the large crowd, sharing a heartfelt message.
He was followed by Mr Kamhin who proceeded to commend the spectacular accomplishments of Rabbi Mordechai and Goldie Avtzon who serve as Chabad of China’s regional directors and are responsible for the availability and celebration of Yidishkeit in Hong Kong.
The famous Chazan Abouhav was brought in from Israel for the event. Rabbi Getzy Markowitz of New York officiated as master of ceremonies and auctioned the opportunities of writing a letter in the new Torah.
Following a lavish lunch and the Siyum of the Torah a joyous procession made its way from the Renaissance hotel down the Avenue of Stars, with the Hong Kong skyline in the background and thousands of spectators on the side lines snapping photos.
The Torah finally made its way amidst thunderous singing and lively dancing into the Chabad House at 11 Hart avenue.
