The Mountain
This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide. Spain’s highest mountain @(3718m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the world´s best observatories.
The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I am still not 100% used to carrying around so much gear required for time-lapse movies.
A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.
Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way. So if you ever wondered how the Milky Way would look through a Sahara sandstorm, look at 00:32.
The Aurora
I spent a week capturing one of the biggest aurora borealis shows in recent years.
Shot in and around Kirkenes and Pas National Park bordering Russia, at 70 degree north and 30 degrees east. Temperatures around -25 Celsius. Good fun.

Makes us realize how we are but a spec of dust.
Thanks for sharing.
i used a frame grabber to extract still images from this video to use as my background!
the music is “now we are free ” the sound track to mel gibson’s movie ” Gladiator ” – I wish I was so boikey in limud ha chassidos
this used to be a very common sight in the Laurentian mountains (S Agathe etc) in Quebec, Canada- being in the cold North does have its advantages!!!
it would sometimes even be seen all the way to montreal!!
Here in our concrete jungle (especially where we live – in Manhattah) such reminders of the natural world are both much-welcome and awe-inspiring. This is the universe that Hashem created – captured by man yet untouched by man. Bring it on and TAKE ME TO THE MOUNTAIN:)
Its definitely female
amazing words cant describe the wonders of hashem
i imagien all these creations prasing hashem!!! gorgeous!
its absolutley gorgeous! unreal!
You can turn of the sound…… Duh
Really sorry for you!

Arora comes from broken sun strings which the sun uses for singing shira (acc, to 2007 research study)
Thanks for sharing. I think the music is Yanni who is male. Love it! keep them coming! It is real. google it- get educated!
To comment #2: You’re wondering why this was presented? Simple! Lo al halechem l’vado yeachyeh ha’adam. I really enjoyed this breathtaking snippet of the beauty of Hashem’s creation. Any person that fails to see an Almighty Creator in pictures of this nature is tuned out to the magnificent, mind-boggling complexity of such phenomena.

This is beautifuf though
one of the ways we can honor Hashem is through the beautiful nature. I think this is a great way to get us to “stop and smell the roses” and enjoy the natural atmosphere once and a while.
when i was a little girl, i remember reading in R’ Yoel Kahn’s father’s book about his imprisonment in Siberia and among his bitter sufferings he describes the beauty of the aurora borealis, unbeleivable that in a word with such beauty there exists such evil
omg stunning! mah rabu masecha Hashem!
why is every1 soo worried about col?
so for a change its not smthing typical!
if u like it….watch it…
if not…ignore!
why the fuss?? seriously…
Is Col starting a new feature now?
It is very nice and you should keep it up.
Just wondering if someone can explain.
Yes, I think it is a woman, but you should turn off the sound, the scenes are beautiful!
Dear Terje Sorgjerd,
Wonderful and majestic! A great and special undertaking.
Sorry, I stopped the second video, the aurora borealis because it sounded like a woman singing.
We Jews want to have a ‘pure’ and ‘holy’ vision/angle on things…listening to a woman sing might interfere…you understand.
This is beautiful! Mah Rabu Ma’asecha Hashem!
so how are you defining COL’s objective?
1.A news site
2. A fun site
3. Informative
4.???
It seems to be a Lubavitch, crownheight (and jewish,) news, information and interaction, site.
b/c its not all about shluchim and shluchim and shluchim
there is a world out there, a very interesting world, a world hashem created and entrusted us with repairing it with torah and mitzvos
But, no complaints it as #1 said.
to see Hashem’s creations!! Breathtaking!
