They say the outdoor Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem, often referred to as “The Shuk”, is the place to find whatever you wish.
The market’s more than 250 vendors sell fresh fruits and vegetables; baked goods; fish, meat and cheeses; nuts, seeds, and spices; wines and liquors; clothing and shoes; housewares, textiles, and Judaica.
And now it all has an official Chabad House.
Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Ruderman recently established a Chabad presence in the Machaneh Yehudah-Davidka neighborhood to serve the spiritual needs of the locals and tourists who populate the area.
His first activity was placing 2 public Menorahs in Davidka Square and at the entrance to the Machaneh Yehuda market, near the light railway stop.
Every evening throughout Chanukah, there will be a public lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. in the center of the open marketplace.
The program will include a live band, providing music for hundreds of traders and thousands of tourists and other visitors.
