Ha! Melamed and Torah don’t mix.

Confused

Are you saying that they don’t follow basic shulchan oruch?! Like, is the food served in shul kosher?

Mizrachi keep Shulchan Oruch
February 11, 2009 11:48 am

I wish it would be a mizrachi shul, and follow shulchan oruch. Halevay! They make Young Israel look like fanatics.

It's not Conservative.

I didn’t know Bais Shmuel is a Conservative shul, I thought it was Modern Orthodox. When did it become Conservative?

Get the spelling right
February 9, 2009 7:37 am

Hey people, the correct spelling of the name of this illustrious family that hails from Toronto, is “SCHOCHET”.

Does anyone know if their ancestor was a shoichet???

Behind every great Rosh stands a greater Roshette.

Who let him go into a Conservative shul???

There are MANY More

I would add to Kop Doktar’s comment – There are many more great Shochat Torah personalities. To name some of the newer generation:

Rav Yosef Gavriel Bechhofer – his mother was a Shochat, and he is a Rov of a Khillah and a mechaber of seforim and a marbitz Torah;

Rav Yaakov Wagner – his mother was a Shochat, a mashpiah in Morristown;

Rav Meir Wagner – his mother was a Shochat, principal of the girl’s school in Toronto;

Rav Noam Wagner – his mother was a Shochat, Rosh Yeshiva and Mashpia;

And there are others…

The entire Shochat Family members from Toronto are exceptional individuals. Asiide from The Rosh, Rav Ezra, there’s other brothers, all of whom are giants in Torah scholarship and leadership: Rav Dovid who is Chabad Rov of Toronto and a world renown poisek; Rav Immanuel who is an accomplished author, lecturer and sought after speaker; Rav Elisha who is a great talmid chochum and magid shiur; Rav Ovadia who is legendary and a popular genious in Miami; Plus this power and gift passed to many of the next generation: Rav Akiva Wagner, Rosh of Toronto Yeshiva – his mother was a… Read more »

THE ROSH IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Rosh and Mashiach
February 8, 2009 4:31 am

Silly – the Rosh never wrote a book. HIs brother Rabbi Immanual is the one who wrote the book on Mashiach and many other books. The whole family is ka”h talented and power and it looks like it passed into next generation. Is it genetic?

It’s become apparent that people who ‘claim’ to be involved in pushing the single campaign of Mashiach are indifferent to everything else positive. Cynical people full of criticism towards every Jew and project, judgmental of every move while claiming to be accepting, and stupid enough to voice their negative opinions in a public forum. Perhaps if you start loving every Jew the way the Rebbe showed, you’d be a little more accepting towards them. Oh but that doesn’t really matter, does it?

just wonder?
February 5, 2009 6:24 pm

why the heck do you need to stare at your blackberrys all day! find a different way to make yourselves look busy! gosh!

#8 - Personal Note
February 5, 2009 8:28 am

I know first hand that the comments made by #8 are true and factual. BTW, #8 is one of the Founding Members of Beis Shmuel who now davens elsewhere and years to come back as often as he can. He participated in last night’s farbrengen with glee.

Mashiach!!
February 5, 2009 8:25 am

#2 Almost the entire farbrengen last night revolved around Mashiach. Who are you kidding! The Rosh wrote the first English book on Mashiach! And Geulah – His discussion last night on the Rebbe, the 12 Pesukim… if that’s not all about Geulah to you, then maybe you need to start spending more time at Beis Shmuel.
