Animals are not superior to people.

Kindness must be tempered with wisdom. It’s not kindness if it goes against Torah. Concern for animals is one thing. Moshe Rebbeniu was chosen to lead Klal Yisroael after he carried a lost sheep all the way back to the flock because it was tired and could not walk. However, when the time came for it to be shechted and eaten, it probably was. Some people think that animals are better then people and should take precedence over people. Love the way you tell this precious life encounter – and who would believe that you originally were not interested in history!
I remember some brilliant talks you gave in Melbourne and now I understand why the parrots in your cheerfully designed home flew freely and were never caged and why you insisted that your kids wear very colorful shoelaces in the regulation black school shoes, even if they’d be sent home!!
Can definitely see why you made the Rebbe smile!
KA”H forever young L’Orech Yamim!!
Love and miss you Shavi….

your story was wonderful, you made my day. thank you so much. I have a very strong soft spot for animals, and I have rescued a few. sadly, I live in a neighborhood where the feeling is NOT mutual Animals are so loving and therapeutic, and give so much …and now with the Rebbe’s smile and stamp of approval so to speak, caring for an animal is a no brainer- a real win -win

Not every Friday.

Also, while of course you *may* feed your animals before your morning coffee, there is no mitzvah to do so. You must feed animals before you eat, not before you drink.

My Encounter does it again!

Is she referring to Rabbi Shloma Majesky’s father, Reb Yakov Yehuda, who was the principal at that time in Bais Rivka?

So beautiful..

I always remember how the slodowitzes used to hold their kaporas chickens in the most gentle and caring way….. Even PETA wouldn’t have complained;)

Love this special story!
