In time for Yom Kippur, Infinity Productions, the production Company that produces music videos and CD albums for the Chabad Vocalist Mayer Rivkin, has announced the release of its latest music video entitled “The Promise.”
In this moving music video/slide-show, Rivkin sings the popular Chabad melody known to many as “Yaaleh,” frequently sung during the evening prayers of Yom Kippur.
The niggun (melody) was composed by the prolific composer, Chabad vocalist and great Chossid, Rabbi Sholom Charitonov, z”l, of the Ukraine, with English lyrics added during the summer of 1991 at Camp Gan Israel, Detroit Michigan.
The heart wrenching tune, lyrics and images in the video, illustrate the pain and confusion of the current bitter exile and the unfaltering faith with which Jews proclaim, as per the songs lyrics: “Hashem made a promise, we will be redeemed, Moshiach will come to fulfill our dream.”
When asked, why this title, why now? … Rivkin replied … “upon realizing that every single song we chose for the album was about Moshiach and Guelah (redemption), I felt in my heart, that I must create a music video that will precede the new album, entitled REDEMPTION, that will inspire those of us who are, perhaps as of yet, not truly sincere in their longing and anticipation for the coming of Moshiach. Waiting for Moshiach is not simply a good thing but our obligation. The lyrics in the song compel us to beg, cry and indeed demand that THE PROMISE of redemption be fulfilled now. As the Rebbe says in the video … together with our demands and with one single act, or even thought, of goodness and kindness, we will surely bring Moshiach.”
For the benefit of the hearing impaired and for the purpose of following the lyrics with ease, sub-titles have been added to the video.
yom kippur tunes!
from a fellow floridian
I DON’T LIVE IN FLORIDA BUT I WAS IN MIAMI FOR YOM KIPPUR. I MUST COMMENT HERE (IT’S ONLY A FEW HOURES AFTER YOM TOV) THAT I HAVE NEVER, EVER ,HEARD A MORE BEAUTIUL AND INSPIRING DAVENING THAN THAT OF OF MEYER RIVKIN IN THE BEL HARBOR SHUL. THIS IS NOT MY OPINION ONLY. EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL SITTING NEXT TO ME WAS EQUALLY IMPRESSED. I NEVER COMMENT ON THESE FORUMS BUT COULD NOT RESIST DOING SO TONIGHT.
HE IS AN IDEAL EXAMPLE OF A TRUE BAL TEFILOH.
pay no attention to him. the voice is soothing and the words are simple, to the point and well pronouced. if only the music was as good.
may your tefilos and negina on yom kippur, and always, be accepted in the highest heavens.
hey! great production, but tachlis
work on the voice and the words of the song……………………..
CAMP SONG BOYS CGI DETROIT YEAR OF GIMMEL TAMMUZ i THINK -TUNE IS USED OFTEN FOR CAMP THEME SONGS -WORKING 30 YEARS
who cares! the bottom line is that this video probably already has and certainly will, continue to inspire thousands of people to the awareness of moshiach and the method of making it a reality. it promted a tear or two in me and in a number of people i discussed this video with, so……who cares who the mechaber was? …just watch this thing and then do a friend a favor by fowarding it to him/her. believe me, they will thank you. gemar tov!
what’s the connection? one thing is for certain, the charitonovs were not mechaber this niggun. maybe the charitinovs were mechaber all niggunim from 150 years ago since we don’t know who the actual mechaber was. A kop ken men nisht aroifshtelen!!!!!!!
you seem to say what you’re saying with much conviction and force, that the song was not composed by the charitonovs and that it’s not of ubavitch origin. that may very well be the case. however, wouldn’t it be only right for you to continue in your claim by telling all of us, who composed it and when this song was actually born. otherwise, your credibility is worthless in my oppinion.
i dont understand what the whole fuss is about. why is it so important to know who the composer of this song was in the first place?
the bottom line is that rav rivkin brought it to us here and performs the melody with feeling and grace, inspiring us to teshuva and an awareness (at least for me) of the need to beg and cry for moshiach. may hashem send him speedily!
This song was composed way before the charitinovs emerged on this world, hakt nisht in tchanik, it is NOT a lubavitcher niggun even though lubavitch adapted it to as their niggun for yaaleh
CAN SOMEONE OUT THERE PLEASE CLEARIFY FOR ME ONE THING (MUST KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT):
WHO IS THE COMPOSER OF THE NIGGUN THAT WE ALL SING ON YOM KIPPUR NIGHT TO THE TEFILOH OF “YAALEH TACHANUNAYNU MAYEREV”….?
NO COMMENTARIES PLEASE ! JUST A SIMPLE ANSWER.
TRUTH BE TOLD, IT WAS NEVER IMPORTANT FOR ME TO KNOW. BUT THE QUESTION HAS COME UP HERE AND I AM FRANKLY INTRIGUEDE AS TO THE FINAL CORRECT ANSWER. SHKOYACH!
the composer of YAALEH could have been Reb Sholom or Reb Aharon or even a karliner. one thing i know for sure is that the yaaleh sung in 770 for years and years is the same tune as rivkins THE PROMISE tune. the KI HINEI CHCHOMER niggun is another niggun not be confused with the first tefilah after shmonei esrei of maariv. would appreciate if one of the true “kenners” in neginah post the real story instead of the guys above, who are just confusing me. i am sure rivkin will appreciate it also. one thing is fore sure…i will… Read more »
The Yaaleh I know and have sung together with the Chazan in 770 for many, many years (not ki hinei kachomer) on Yom Kippur night, is the same as the tune to which Reb Mayer Rivkin sings it in the promise video.
The mechaber could have
in the future mayer should check with those in the know. There happens to be a niggun yaaleh from reb sholom a”h charitonov(nikolaiever) but it is a totally different song. Post 37 stated correctly this melody is an alter karliner niggun sung correctly by lubavitch, sung incorrectly in poilishe shtieblach to the words of lecha doodi and ultimately by avraham fried
YAALEH IS A KARLINER NIGGUN RIVKIN IS CONFUSING YAALEH WITH KI HINEI KACHOMER ONE WHICH WAS COMPOSED BY AARON AND ONE WHICH WAS COMPOSED BY SHOLOM
Meyer, your great, we really enjoy your production, it’s really touching the heart,
meyer your excellent at what you do, keep on producing more,
we hope hashem listens to your production, and will answer with the hisgalus, geulah ha’amitis v’hashlaimah
your production inspires all of us,
your geshmake ‘chsidishe gefil’, is felt in your beautiful singing.
and the professional way you put together those beautiful clips, gevaldig!
thank you very much.
the images of the Rebbe during the credits at the end of the video is mamesh gvaldik. nice idea! sent a shiver up my spine.
is missing a chior or a boys voice or something. can’t pinpoint it exactly.
you can view the video in HQ (High Quality) by clicking on the screen. it will take you to youtube for a larger screen and better experience.
every frame…every bar… a gem
very nice
was the niggun composed by Reb Sholom or Reb Aaron Charitonov. both of them were giants in neggina and the Rebbeim held them in highest esteem for their devotion. both truly great chassidim.
that is such an expert on word stress during song recordings and eeeeee sounds?…and uses words like “gruffly”………?
i wonder…….
there is no way he can translate or explain every word in the song. it’s a video! for crying out loud! if his previous cd’s are an indication, i have no doubt that when the cd is released we will see a complete printed booklet with all the details and important information.
i am sorry to have to say this, it being erev yom kippur and aseres yimay tshuva and all – but you’re (mr. allowed to…) nottin but a trouble-maker and it seems, with a chip on your shoulder to boot. it’s erev yom kippur buddy! get a life!
please read softly not gruffly:)
he doesn’t stress on the right words. dreeeem? you never stress on an eeeeee sound in a song. besides if your not a lubavitcher you understand maybe half of the ideeas. “the buttons are polished” will any not lubavitcher understand?
you did it once and again. seems like every detail was thought out and then again so, your attention to detail is what i was always impressed with when you published the uforatzta magazine and then when you were a building contactor. and now this effort for perfection with your music and video productions as well. it shows. don’t stop keep up what you are doing for the sake of the many who are inspired by your work. yasher
we ask, beg and plead to the All-Mighty that He confirm with His Holy signiture, a year of only good for us and our loved ones. if we beg and plead for Moshiach with the same heartfelt intensity, He will no doubt fulfill our wishes.
A Gemar Chatima Tova to Klal Yisroel!
To 1 and 2 Both of you are wrong it is not Rav Shalom Charitonow rather Rav Ahron Charitonow
this guys voice is smooth as velvet…or silk. enjoyed the video.
interesting message. happy yom kippur to all.
with some of the comments flying round here, youre really showing the total opposite of what this vidoe message is, how can moshiach come with these mean words and spiteful comments.
WE want moshiach to come now!, not chas vesholom the opposite.
you guys sound like twins! (probably the same jealous guy). i bet both of you believe that this video is actally very good.
you stuufed it up its sounds worse then a cgi color war son g!!!!!!!get real this music vedio is just a embarresment.
but liked the it happened yom kippur video better.
it’s a known fact, you can’t make money on a cd with all the nice illegal uploaders and downloaders of music. he is probably a happy camper (camps song…get it?) if he breaks even! did a good job on the video though. i like his voice and style and look forward to his new cd.
i must admit, i repeated playing the video 3 times and did not detect a problem with the pronounciation. the music is a bit funky though in some places. i sing this niggun often at my shabbos table the same its sung on the video, and nobody has corrected me so far.
the video is great, super, stupendis….bla, bla, bla, bla…..
now that the video is behind you, no more excuses or delays.
COME OUT WITH THE NEW CD ALLREADY AND MAKE SOME REAL MONEY!
whats all this talk of this being good??
cant anybody hear that he doesnt pronounce the words properly along with the tune?
thats ebsides for the fact that the niggun itself is not sung bediyuk…
you are not a chabad woman….YET!
nice video. does not compare to your beautiful heartfelt tefilos on rosh hashonoh at lipskers shul.
two, four, six, eight, who do we appreciate!…the promise video. a great camp song and moshiach song. got to pass it on. gmar tov to klal yisroel.
i am a video production editor and must extend some words of praise to Mr. Welton and Mr. Rivkin. Nice job guys. Thank you.
why is his son mendel not singing with him on this one? he sings so sweet.
very nice camp song and thanks for mentioning the winning team “tvia” and eifo 770?
moshiach now!
Rabbi CH. M. Bukiet who was my Rosh Hayeshiva in Lubavitch at Bedford & Dean and who i loved very much, used to say: ke ke…”sedu asach tzi redden.” there are many things i can say in review of this video, but i have neither the time nor will to do so. However, i do want to say that overall this peice of work is a winner. Hatzlocho and we should merit to see more. A Gmar Chasima Toivoh to all.
i am not a chabad woman per say and loved this production nevertheless. i jump onto collive as often as my job would allow and enjoy many of the features. thank you for bringing this one. the singer touched a cord in my soul and the images moved me to flowing tears. thanks again.
like rabbi gerlitzki from OT says. NU NU
the tune is so inspiring and beautifull, others want to take credit for it. i don’t blame them. this IS a Lubavitcher niggun.
notice in comment #1 he spells “lubavitch” without a capital L, but spells “Skever” with a capital S. this individual must be a Skeverer chossid and would like to take credit for the song. B”H Lubavitch and Skever were always on good terms, but sorry, no cigar.
Meir you’re doigng a great service for the entire chabad comunity.
Gmar Tov!
Moshe K
the tune was composed by Reb Sholom Charitonov and can be found in Sefer Hanigunim Chabad! the words to the Yom Kippur tefila of “yaale” was added later by Chabad Baalei Tefiloh and others. you may want to look into this further and you may want to contact Rabbi Zalman Goldstein (Monsey) or Rabbi Dovid Horowitz (Crown Heights). These guys got the goods on the origins and history of many niggunim. you may also want to contact Avrohom Fried who used this tune for one of his songs as well. Thank you reb Meyer Rivkin for bringing this gem to… Read more »
was not composed by charitonov and is not even a lubavitcher niggun. I think Skever nigun
