Dear friends,
While trying to figure out how to continue the weekly show in a way which would allow me to not expend the usual 50-70 hours it takes me to produce a full episode on my own, I attempted to shorten the episode by reviewing a YouTube video which had gone viral.
When I wrote the episode, I skimmed through the video looking for points which can be used to make you, the viewer, laugh.
However, at about 65 percent through the editing, I realized that at one time in the video, there was a visual, while non-malicious in any way, that was not appropriate to be viewed by children.
The easy way around it was to mask the part, which was literally 3-5 seconds long, out of the video as if it didn’t exist. My audience would be none the wiser, and everything would be okay.
But later on, it dawned upon me: What if the viewer –adults and particularly children– would go ahead and find and watch the original footage and come across that visual which I left out.
And it got me thinking. Would I be okay with my own kids watching the full video? Seeing the 3-5 seconds of a seemingly innocent visual? The answer was absolutely not.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where confusion eats away at our moral fiber. Advertising companies are convincing us, through sweet aromas and eye-appealing visuals to sell our souls away all for the purpose of lifting us off the ground. So that we may float up high on shallow dew and display our fat egos to the rest of the world.
Indeed, the ad companies, clothing companies, a good portion of the entertainment industry; they don’t care about us; who we are, our struggles, our triumphs. They care about our money, and for that, they’ll sing the sweetest tune, paint the nicest picture, tell us lies. Anything that’ll get us to hand over more of our moral fiber.
My brother, Shmuel Nosson Kravitsky (I call him “The SNaK.” He calls me “The MaK.” Whatever, long story….) taught me that at the end of the day, this life we lead, the stages on which we perform– it’s not for us, it’s not because of us, and it doesn’t end with us, it’s all so that each of us, in our unique way, serve G-d by making this world a bit more beautiful than it was when we first showed up.
So I scrapped Episode #32 – a week’s worth of work to help make your future more pure. I can only hope to follow this path every moment of every day of the rest of my life.
Hope to see you next time. As always, thank you for being awesome!
