Popular radio host Michael Savage spoke on his nationally syndicated talk show about an inspiring encounter he had at a Jewish wedding.
“I know G-d’s hand was involved in this wedding,” he said Wednesday on The Savage Nation. “G-d’s hand was involved in my going because I wasn’t going to go.”
He told his estimated 9 million listeners around the country that at the wedding he met Jews from the former Soviet Union “who lived through the denial of G-d.”
“They lived through the ex-Soviet Union’s terrors,” the conservative political commentator said. “They lived through persecution, where Bibles were burned and Jewish rituals were denied.”
He said the Jews who lived under communism told him that in the worst of times they never hated G-d or cursed him.
The 70 year-old Bronx native, whose real name is Michael Alan Weiner said that he met a “mystical rabbi” at the wedding and “he and I got along greatly.”
He said the rabbi, whom he had never met before, told him that his mission in life was “to be the bridge between G-d and man,” words which deeply inspired Savage.
COLlive.com has learned that the wedding Savage attended was of Alex Moshel of Melbourne, Australia to Chaya Langer, daughter of the San Francisco Shluchim Rabbi Yosef and Hindy Langer.
The Langers are friendly with Savage and invited him to the chuppah and meal that took place at the Presidio Golden Gate Club, located near the San Francisco National Cemetery.
It was there that Savage said he eyed a small, bronze plaque in the ground that read: “In memory of all those who died on D-Day.”
“I looked up and I said to the rabbi, ‘Do you realize that if it wasn’t for these men who died on D-Day, none of us would be here today. We’d all be lampshades. We’d be dead,” he said on his show.
He said the rabbi then “grabbed my hands and we danced around the memorial stone. Soon five more men joined in, then 10. It was like something out of Chagall,” he said, according to WND.org.
A participant at the wedding estimated that the rabbi Savage was referring to was Rabbi Naftali Estulin, the fiery Director of Chabad Russian Immigrant Program & Synagogue in West Hollywood, CA.
“They clearly hit it off,” the source told COLlive. “They just sat together and spoke for a long time. People came over to Savage but he just kept talking to R’ Naftali.”
Savage was also seen speaking to the Shluchim in Sacramento, Rabbi Mendy Cohen and his wife Dinie, whose father was R’ Yossef Mochkin OBM, of the known Chabad family active in the chassidic underground network in Russia.
Mesader Kiddushin was Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Groner who flew in from Melbourne.
