The Gan Israel school in Boro Park hosted Rabbi Elie Matusof to speak about the history of printing of Jewish books for the students.
Matusof, an editor for the Otzar Hachassidim division of Kehot Publication Society, has reviewed the precious and important place seforim have in Jewish life.
He also reviewed the laws of respecting and treating holy books.
The students of the Gan Israel School are fortunate to have access to many chassidus books, as the Heichal Menachem chassidic library is located next door to the school.
A booklet reviewing the laws of seforim was recently published by Rabbi Meir Aharon, Rosh Yeshiva Chabad in Rechovot – download here
aS THE REBBE SAID mEN DARF DOS DRUKEN. THERE ARE FEW SEFORIM ABOUT THIS SUBJECT AND ITS VERY IMPORTANT. mNAY IN VARIOUS CHUGIM ARE MEZALZEL IN THIS OUT OF IRNORANCE
Respect for seforim was very close to the Rebbe’s heart ( if my memory serves me correct, on several occasions when the Rebbe entered 770 and noticed a hat on top of a safer or Tifilin Etc. the Rebbe stopped and either looked in the direction of the safer until it was corrected or started walking toward the safer to fix it himself,)
Everyone should download this booklet and review it, because it’s a real shame to see the lack of respect with which seforim are treated in Shuls.
