Egypt may follow in Iran’s footsteps, oppress its own people and threaten neighboring countries, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday at the European Friends of Israel conference held at the Knesset.
According to Ynet, he said that various potential scenarios exist in Egypt at this time, beyond the liberal democratic models – including secular reforms, an Islamist takeover, or Egypt following the Iran example.
Netanyahu added that the “earthquake in Tunisia” was followed by one in Egypt, noting that at this time the extent of the aftershocks is unclear.
His realistic words have caught the ire of British Foreign Secretary William Hague, who urged Israel to avoid using “belligerent” language.
Yigal Palmor, a foreign ministry spokesman, answered: “We are witnessing a situation in which when a regime faces a serious challenge, voices are heard calling for a freeze or cancellation of a 30-year old peace agreement. This talk is obviously a cause for concern and the lesson we draw is that in any peace treaty, security aspects must be strengthened.”
What these leaders might not know is that the exact same concerns were voiced by the Lubavitcher Rebbe some 30 years ago, when he warned that the peace agreement of Menachem Begin and Anwar El Sadat might not be kept.
On 18 Elul 5741, the Rebbe spoke to Chassidim in 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn about the internal political struggle in Egypt.
“The instability in Egypt and its status can be like Iran’s, in that even for money they won’t provide Israel with fuel,” he warned then in a reference to the take over of the extremist Muslims regime in Iran.
The Rebbe’s words were published in the daily Hatzofe newspaper.
Those who signed on the peace agreement already realized that they didn’t get anything in return other than a piece of paper in exchange for concessions in vital areas such as security and economy,” the Rebbe was quoted as saying.
20 days later Sadat was assassinated, and 30 years later Hosni Mubarak‘s administration is in shambles, paving the way to the Muslim Brotherhood who are already vowing not to respect prior agreements with the State of Israel.
Oh Meh haya lonu…I have no faith in Netanyahu, nor his goverment. Only Hashem can save us from our own foolishness…we already see that even though the prime minister talks a big talk, when it comes down to it, he cowers in fright and folds like a cheap suit when Hillary or Obama scream at him…

Remember that the last happening before the GEULA from Mitzraim was the Egyptians fighting each other. 2] The REBBE said many times that when an aggreement is abrogated by one side the other side is not bound to it either. This means that when Egypt doesn’t keep its part of the peace treaty Israel should get back the Sinai Peninsula. The REBBE stated that if our government demands back the Sinai with the full proper severity it… Read more »

“…and he would not give us false hopes, and he would not tell us lies, and he would not tell the future if he hadn’t seen it with his eyes…”
where did the rebbe say this?
which sicha?
I always told people that this was one area I didn’t really understand why the Rebbe was against the peace deal in ’78. 30 yrs. of relative peace made it seem like the deal was good. I should have trusted more in the words of the Rebbe
thanks collive for posting this
a reminder how much we miss and need the rebbe and not only us but the whole wide world!
just listen to the Rebbe in the first place and everything will be alright!!!!!
