for some reason, theres always a lot of hte same people winning – when they put tickets in the box, theyre not properly shuffeld and mixed and its not right. They should get one of those really huge mixers, put the tickets in, spin it and then pick! people pay money for those tickets – yes its for tzedakah, but whats fair is fair………..

It is a great event but on a side note (that some of you who are not familiar with the subject may not realize) it encourages gambling.
Gambling is a serious issue in our community and such events encourage such activity. It’s a shame.

Read #21. That’s what can arise when too many free tkts given. I’m not saying that’s what happened, just that it could. It’s better for the benefit of future auctions to give small gifts even if they cost a little.

there are other auctions thatdo this for men. ten yad only does it for women since it is run by women and they are for womens rights and so on and againts men! like you said they just want your money. but the bottom line is they do great work and its huge tzedakah
to#6 If you did attend before when they had the 5 dollar prizes, then you paid the admission to get in, which gives you 20 dollars worth of tickets, so why don’t you just pay admission only and use the 20 dollars for 2 ten dollar tickets or one twenty dollar ticket, to #7 you write better to give them a gift, a gift usually costs an organization money, while giving out free auction tickets doesn’t, mosdois are struggling very much dues to the poor economy, there are a lot less people giving, and a lot more people in need-… Read more »

ten yad as well as many other auctions in the neighborhood had men’s viewing hours, which were poorly attended. although, in the last two years kscvk did have a men’s evening and offered exclusive prizes geared to men only.

I guess when there is an organization called Hachnosas Chosson, that provides kapotes, hats, etc. For the man’s needs for the wedding, they will make something for men, but as long as it’s Ten Yad Hachnosas Kallah, who provide Sheitlach, gowns, cutlery etc. – more of the woman’s domain, I suppose it makes sense that they target the women demographic.
I’m not sure if this happens in any auctions but just in case..Please make sure people don’t get tons of free tickets for services performed because that reduces everyone else’s odds! Better to give them a gift.
I did not attend, there were no five dollar prizes anymore, and I can’t afford bigger ticket items.
One thing i find very interesting is that the Men give the majority of the money raised for this auction and for all auctions for that matter. Now I don’t mean to disrespect the Women who give money because there are plenty of women who do donate to the very special cause. The point I am trying to make is why is it that only women are invited to this and other auctions and don’t tell me ts because there are women singers, you can always have men as singers. I was there when Meleha sang, she has such a beautiful voice, but we unfortunately couldn’t hear very well all the way in the back. perhaps next time, they could raise the volume a bit and get sufficient speakers on both sides in the back of the room.
