hey # 27...this is for you
September 16, 2009 6:53 pm

I got married 2x, and both times Ten Yad gave me everything I needed….and I am NOT FROM CROWN HEIGHTS! They are an amazing organization, they really give a chosson and kallah some of the basics that they may not get otherwise. I agree with all the posts- those that bought a ticket should let Ten Yad keep the money and consider it TZEDDAKAH!

yeh, why no $100K PRIZE
September 16, 2009 7:13 am

AT LEAST

Why Cancel (Rush?) ... EXTEND IT!
September 16, 2009 2:27 am

whats more dissapointing to the ticket holders?
a) Cancel
b) Extending deadline
c) $100,000k prize!

everyine wins!

btw

they sold close to 1100 (=400,000)

100k prize = 300,000 profit!!!!!!!!!

yes 46! smells abit sinister!
September 16, 2009 2:26 am

why must they rush to CANCEL?! whats soo holy about keeping to the ORIGINAL deadline?! the hopes and wishes of the 1100+ people who purchased tickets are not given any consideration!! why NOT offer to split the POT! between the winner and the mosad! approx 200 grand = very happy winner not to mention 200 grand for tenyad can help 200 kallas! thats one kallah each day of the year minus SFIRAS HAOMER! as a benifactor of tenyad! we have recieved nearly $500. in value between bed sheets and kitchenware! they doo plenty of good !! but dont use shady… Read more »

I AGREE WITH #35
September 15, 2009 7:48 pm

35
why were they promoting it at the last minute
Why did they continue to promote it until the last minute. Did they think thatthey would get a deluge of purchases? I think not. They knew that they did not have enough last week.

I think that they should refund the money no questions asked and they should disclose exactly what happened.

your right but not evry body could afford it just like that

I think we all need a little focus here/.....
September 15, 2009 3:33 pm

I think that many people are losing sight of the fact that when you donate to a Tzedakah raffle you are DONATING TO A CAUSE. That is the point. The raffle is just the incentive, and its very nice, and ONE PERSON will win.
Everyone else gets a MITSVAH.
Keep that in mind and you won’t be so disappointed.
Personally, I did not buy a ticket because it was too expensive for me, but for those who did, I don’t understand what all the fuss is about.

HHHaaaa Haa!!!
September 15, 2009 3:20 pm

All you losers talk liek u alraedy won.
what a joke.
its about tzidaka and evrything else is extra

September 15, 2009 3:18 pm

Whats the rush?
why not just extend the contest?
give it another 6 months, thats what I sayl
why just cancel without even giving it another shot.

Why not make a smaller prize?
September 15, 2009 3:17 pm

I dont get why they didnt just take the money they did actually make and use part of it for a prize. $100,000 is also a very nice prize and would have made someone very happy.

Legal gambling
September 15, 2009 3:04 pm

I think that too many people bought this for the chance of having a condo. I raffle is supposed to be to giove to a cause and the prize is an extra enticemnt. IT is not meant to take food off your table to think that you will for sure win. Rabbonim have to sit down and figure out if this is not becoming a form of leagalized gamling that ius inappropiate and destructive. I think that someone should look at the list of people who purchased and see how many of those people had no buissness giving this money.… Read more »

Obviously its becuase of the economy that they could not sell enough tickets. noone could afford to spend so much on maybe winning.

Dont Blame Drizin
September 15, 2009 3:03 pm

What does this have to do with Drizin?
They were going to sell a condo to them like to anyone else.
They are innocent in all of this.

what is it about raffles?
to me its just gambling. i think they are all a waste of money.
and dont get me started on the auctions. People “shop” for tickets for the items like they are buying them.
People you are not buying the prize! The only winner is Ten Yad. what a scam

why were they promoting it at the last minute
September 15, 2009 3:01 pm

I think that they should refund the money no questions asked and they should disclose exactly what happened.

Weird
September 15, 2009 3:01 pm

Its very strange how everyone is so upset about this being canceled, considering only one of you would have won….

y is everyone being so nasty?
September 15, 2009 1:59 pm

If you read the article, they clearly stated that they will issue a refund if anybody wants it, or give a credit to their next auction. And all of this was stated in the fine print: that if there aren’t enough tickets sold, tickets will be refunded.
I think people should realize that we are talking about a tzedakkah organization, who helps our community in a very real, tangible way, doing one of the greatest mitzvos. May ten yad go from strength to strength, and raise a lot of money in their upcoming auction! Hatzlacha Rabbah

I dont feel so bad.
September 15, 2009 12:32 pm

I dont feel so bad.
Ten yad did a good job of soliciting the rest of the country, yet they only support kallahs in CH. You want our support, you support us.

let it be
September 15, 2009 10:14 am

Drizin could use the PR and the tax deduction by donating the condo and letting ten yad keep whatever funds they collected

a resident in CH
September 15, 2009 4:49 am

those who need the money take it back you deserve it
those who dont its a donation to a great cause but ten yad need to give a tax deductible receipt

wat is up?
September 15, 2009 4:25 am

to those of you who bought a raffle ticket…you paid to buy a RAFFLE TICKET not a condo! (websters dictionary: raf⋅fle1  /ˈræfəl/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [raf-uhl] Show IPA noun, verb, -fled, -fling. –noun 1. a form of lottery in which a number of persons buy one or more chances to win a prize.) If you had lost, would you ask for the money back? No, The money you paid is for Tzedaka! Besides-ten yad said they are refunding the money-what the h is e/o complaing about? to #11 do you have any idea how many kallahs are helped by ten yad?… Read more »

September 15, 2009 3:43 am

i wonder why they don’t have a lesser ash prize like 50,000?

buyer
September 15, 2009 3:42 am

they did have a disclaimer that if they didn’t sell enough they would refund the money…(its too hard to ask everyone what they want and harder to come to an agreement)….i agree that they should just postpone….and or lower the ticket price (and for those that paid the higher price give a second ticket or part refund?)

why don't you chip in with family members
September 15, 2009 2:40 am

as brothers and sisters etc. (work it out) so at least you can work it out and share it if you win, but if you dont even do that, your a sure loser!

another solution
September 15, 2009 2:32 am

Alot of people, including me were really excited and were sure they are winning. Yo can’t just cancel the last minute. Perhaps ask all donors if they want their money back or to go into a raffle where they winn 100,000

Agree with 14
September 15, 2009 1:48 am

I bought 2 tickets really hoping to win. And if it weren’t going to be me, then another family that really needed it. It’s extremely disappointing! There really weren’t enough tickets sold to make it worthwhile?

dovid
September 15, 2009 1:36 am

TenYad was greedy in such economic times charging $360 per ticket.
no wonder they didn’t sell 4000 tickets which is 1.4 million that is a mil over the cost of the condo

chana
September 15, 2009 1:35 am

who said that they have to sell 4,000 tickets and make $1,440.000.00 when that condo sells for under $500,000.00 they could have sold the tickets for less then $360 and sold a bunch more tickets and covered the cost of the condo and then some or what would be so bad if they only sold 1,500 tickets that still covers the condo plus $40,000.00 I hope another org picks up the ball where TenYad dropped it. and raffles a condo off and sells the tickets with a deal ie 1 for 100 3 for 250 at a lower price they… Read more »

September 15, 2009 1:35 am

If you planed the raffel, and people gave money because of a chance of winning an condo, it’s not right to cancel. if they need more time extend the date but just to cancel it’s not right to the people.

September 15, 2009 1:33 am

It is really sad that it didn’t work out… I am sure that just as I am dissapointed, a lot of people out there were hoping to experience first hand a “meshaneh makom meshaneh mazal”…. and with the economy as it is… most people can hardly afford a down payment, or even dream of having an apartment for which they spend so little… Yet… that little, right now, before Yom Tov… for many can hardly be called little!!! I honestly hope that the refunds are processed as quickly as possible, as at this point, the money that took a whole… Read more »

They should give everyone a refund. i give them tzedakkah al the time but this one was to win a condo i davened every day i should win the condo i really need the condo and have no money to buy one. i live with 3 kids in a 1 bedroom and really wanted it. i will ask for my money back!!

too expensive
September 15, 2009 1:08 am

I wanted to buy a ticket but 360 is way too much. Maybe if they lowered it to like 300, or 275 more ppl would buy?

I vote for #1
September 15, 2009 1:04 am

I vote for #1
Its a great mitzvah before Rosh Hashana!
ppl who gave and do not ask a refund are going to be blessed with more than a condo in gashmius and rucnius

How can they be low on funds? they make a fortune on their auction. You’d never know there’s a recession the way some people spent there!

It is a pity someone missed out on winning a new home.

ten yad greedy??
September 15, 2009 12:36 am

tell that to a kallah who wont have help setting up her home because the organization is low on funds.

why 6?
September 15, 2009 12:33 am

someone has to cintinou give newly weds wedding packages and believe me in this economy they all need it so for it to be worthed you need at least double and probably ten yad was hoping begining f the year the economy will be better but sadly not so let ten yad refund the money and those who want to donate to newly weds let them do that too

dont agree with u
September 14, 2009 11:42 pm
agreed
September 14, 2009 11:25 pm

🙂

TenYad was greedy
September 14, 2009 11:21 pm

lower prices on the tickets or don’t try and sell 4000 tickets that is more then 3 times the cost of the condo

Refund Shmefund
September 14, 2009 10:56 pm

The judged ones are going to become those that bought and request a refund.
Refund all the money and people can decide if they want to regift.

Any options?
September 14, 2009 10:49 pm

Times are tough, Suely alot of thinking went into this final decision, However might there be a possibility of extending the date for the raffle drawing? or appealing to larger families in desperate need of larger condo by offering 500,000 toward condo of your choice possible?
While giving tzedakah to ten yad is worthy cause of its own, the motivator for some was seeing a family who would otherwise have no means for improved living conditions, or home ownership be blessed with a miracle of their own to call home.

Agree with #1
September 14, 2009 10:39 pm
Let it continue!
September 14, 2009 10:36 pm

Why don’t they make it be for longer? whoever payed already 360 could have the option to continue donating 36 per month and whoever didnt have a chance to buy yet could buy now! maybe postponde it for an other couple month …
that’s such a great raffle!
but at least everyone already got the mitsva!

Lets just let them keep the money. They do such great things-now there s a chance to do a real Mitzvah of Tzedaka!!!
