Teldons Begin ‘Traveling Torah’

On Wednesday, 4 Tammuz, family and friends of Long Island Head Shluchim Rabbi Tuvia and Chaya Teldon gathered to begin the writing of a unique Sefer Torah in memory of their son, Boruch Nissan Teldon obm.

The first letters of the Torah were written at the Crown Heights home of Rabbi Binyomin and Leah Klein by sofer Rabbi Moshe Klein.

Boruch, whose twentieth yahrtzeit is today, Hey Tammuz, was a funny and sensitive child who, despite his young age, was surprisingly insightful. Although his burden was heavy, he rarely buckled under its weight. After struggling mightily, shortly after becoming a Bar Mitzvah he succumbed to a grave illness.

Boruch truly brought the mitzvah of Ahavas Yisroel to a new level. He was ever vigilant that the timid not be overlooked, the hungry be fed, and the underdog be elevated. His infectious smile lit up when he became aware of another pocket of darkness being vanquished by a shining mitzvah.

Like Boruch, his Torah too, will be unique. The Torah is slated to travel around the world to aid Shluchim in their fledgling communities that cannot yet afford a Torah of their own, wherever the need be. Surely, Boruch would give a huge smile and a big ‘thumbs up’ to this global embrace.
