The life of the average Jewish teenager today looks something like this: school, friends, sports, extra-curricular activities, college prep, and sleep if possible.

“Jewish education” doesn’t usually make the cut on a teen’s to-do list. During high school, teenagers begin to form an identity and value system that shapes the course of their lives. Unfortunately, during these formative years, many Jewish teenagers have already “graduated” Hebrew school and are the least engaged in Yiddishkeit.

Enter JLI. From the first stages of conception, JLI Teen courses are molded around the deepest interests of contemporary teens. How can I achieve success in life? How can I make a relationship work? Who am I, really? These seemingly new questions have been posed since the beginning of time. And teens learn that they can find answers and resolutions in the last place they thought to look: Torah.

This February, shluchim around the globe began teaching a dynamic new course: Myth Busters.

The most provocative misconceptions about Jewish practice and philosophy have been compiled into one 6-part course, shedding new light on what most teens thought they knew about Yiddishkeit. Myths are brought to life and then systemically debunked through vibrant debate and exploration of biblical sources.

“Myth Busters will allow the modern teen to overcome emotional barriers and forge a personal connection with the Torah,” says Rabbi Elya Silfen, JLI Teens director.

“We have tackled the most relevant issues, the questions that matter most in the lives of young people…and resolved them through the wisdom of ancient sages. It’s monumental!”
