The Beis Menachem Chabad shul in the village of Tannersville in Upstate New York hosted a Yarchei Kallah gathering of Torah learning this past Shabbos ahead of Chof Av, yartzeit of Harav Levi Yitzchok Schneerson OBM, the father of the Rebbe.
It was opened on Shabbos afternoon with a Kinus Torah addressed by Rabbi Shmuel Benshimon, Rosh Yeshiva Chabad in Postville, Iowa, and Rabbi Chanoch Bistritzky, Menahel of Yeshiva Chabad in New Haven, Connecticut.
On Motzoei Shabbos, a festive Melave Malka was held organized by the gabboim of the shul during which many residents both Chassidic and Litvish joined the evening. It was opened with a video of the Rebbe saying a sicha.
The emceed was Rabbi Mordechai Stern, Rov of the Chabad community in Tannersville. The featured speakers were
Rabbi Hershel Schachter, Rosh Yeshiva at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary in New York City and posek for the Orthodox Union (OU), spoke about the obligation of knowing the entire Torah. He focused on the opinion of the Alter Rebbe on the subject.
Additional speakers were Rabbi Yehodush Borenstein, Rov of the local shul Anshei Hasharon, and Boston Rebbe of Flatbush, Rabbi Pinchos Dovid Horowitz; and the philanthropist R’ Sholom Ber Drizin of Crown Heights, who spends his summers there.
Rabbi Yisroel Rubin, Head Shliach of Albany in New York, who regularly participates, was unable to personally attend this year. Instead, he sent in as a Teshura a booklet expanding on some of the deep teachings of Harav Levi Yitzhok (download it here).
