Just after Shabbos Chanukah ended, hundreds of Jews from all over the New York metropolitan area gathered to light Brooklyn’s Menorah at the Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park.
Joining Rabbi Shimon Hecht of Chabad of Park Slope and honored with
lighting the giant Menorah was Brooklyn’s Syrian Rabbi Meyer Yedid of the Shaare Zion Congregation in Brooklyn.
He was accompanied by a community pillar and local businessman, Mr. Eli Cohen who was honored with lighting the Shamash and shared greetings.
Rabbi Yedid blessed the crowd with a joyous Chanukah and exclaimed his
admiration for Chabad Lubavitch locally and around the world. While lifted over 30 feet in the air, he blessed Chabad to continue its holy work on behalf of the Jewish people.
As every night, hot latkes were served and all the children received a special prize to take home.
Mr. Joey Shammah, who came especially from Syrian community to see his Rabbi light the massive Menorah, commented “This is Beautiful. Kol hakavod to Chabad.”
The final candle will be lit Sunday, December 9 at 5:30 pm. For more information, visit LargestMenorah.com
