Assemblymember Brian Cunningham has informed the Crown Heights community that there will be an important public town hall meeting this Sunday at 3pm, to discuss the many planned homeless shelters in Crown Heights and East Flatbush.
“Join us for the Vital Brooklyn Town Hall! We will be gathering at Public School at 791 Empire Blvd (Between Troy and Schenectady Aves), this Sunday, November 5th, at 3pm.
To discuss this important community issue and hear directly from New York City and State agencies overseeing these homeless shelter projects,” Cunningham said.
A Crown Heights resident that lives on Rutland Road near the planned ‘Mega Shelter 681 Clarkson Ave’ spoke with COLlive and said that Lubavitchers that live in South Crown Heights and East Flatbush should be encouraged to attend this Town Hall as well. Residents should tell all their non Jewish friends and neighbors about this Town Hall event so they can speak up as well.
“The large crime increase from the existing homeless shelters already in the neighborhood negatively affects all law abiding residents of this area alike,” the activist said.
Community Board 9, which represents a large portion of Crown Heights, recently sent a letter to New York Governor Kathy Hochul opposing the “vital Brooklyn” Kingsboro project on Clarkson and Albany Avenues.
Multiple members of the local East Flatbush community addressed the board regarding the project, highlighting potential issues such as safety, parking, traffic, and lighting.
Longtime board member Rabbi Yaacov Behrman asked the board to officially record the board’s opposition, making a motion to send a letter to the governor opposing the project.
The board voted unanimously to send the letter and express opposition to the project in its current form.
The mega homeless shelter with almost 1,000 apartments is being built by the Kingsboro Psychiatric Homeless shelter at 691 Albany Ave, and 681 Clarkson Ave in Crown Heights.
The project is being built on 7 acres of New York state owned land, and according to public records being funded by NYC department of homeless service.
This is has been from day 1 over 5 years ago, one of the many targeted attacks against the Jews of Crown Heights by NYC. Get them all out. Including the so-called ‘regular’ apartment building on Crown & Troy where someone whose rent was covered in FULL by govt (which is code for ‘shelter’) ran around with a knife endangering the entire community. Let those who planted the drug addicted psychopaths into our community live with them in theirs instead.
Show your face, even for just a few minutes. Show your concern for the wellbeing of our neughbourhood
That’s the LAST thing we need.
We don’t have enough problems already, we have to import more??
Very foolish
Covert the shelter into a dorm for bochurim and get funded by the govt
Do something, be there at the meeting for a few minutes. Wake up people
