Pesach was excited for his sixth child to be born. He had five girls so far, and of course he loved them. But if he was honest, he was really hoping it would be a boy this time. He dreamed of proudly taking him to shul on Simchas Torah, and long summer evenings learning together on the deck, and naming him after his father.
So when the doctors announced that they had to perform an emergency C-section, he started to fear for the worst. He noticed that the doctors looked nervous. As the surgery progressed, something didn’t feel right.
Why was it taking so long? Why were the numbers on the screen plummeting?
“Mr. Heineman,” a nurse said, jolting him back to reality. “We need you to step out of the room. The baby is in distress.”
Pesach left the room trembling. He tried to daven, but his mind was paralyzed with fear. Ten minutes passed.
Twenty.
Thirty.
Suddenly, Pesach remembered a campaign that his Rebbe was nudging him to sign up for the night before. Whoever donated money to the tzedakah campaign would have Kohanim daven for them on Zos Chanukah by the Kosel. That was today.
With sweaty hands, he pulled out his phone and opened the link that his Rebbi emailed him. After a minute of pondering, he decided to donate $52. The gematria of son.
He clicked donate.
Seconds later, the doors swung open. “It’s a boy!,” cried the nurse, ushering him inside.
Pesach was in awe. A tiny bundle was screaming and alive, and it was wrapped in blue. It was a miracle.
Many people who donated to last year’s campaign called Vaad HaRabbanim with tears in their eyes, saying that their prayers were answered. The Vaad has received special permission to coordinate this incredible event again this year. Yet again, a group of Kohanim will gather near the Kodesh Kedoshim on the last night of Chanukah and beg to Hashem on behalf of the generous supporters of the Vaad HaRabbanim.
