A new 12,500 square foot Chabad house was opened in Canada’s capital in preparation of the upcoming High Holidays.
Rabbi Mendel and Dina Blum, directors of the Ottawa Torah Centre Chabad (OTC), were joined by community members to celebrate this long awaited milestone.
Dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Pierre Poilievre and City Councillor Jan Harder, and friends from all segments of the community comprised the 700 people in attendance.
Greetings were shared by Israeli ambassador to Canada Rafael Barak, Ottawa’s Mayor Jim Watson, and Jewish Federation’s president Steven Kimmel.
The mayor also announced that Rabbi Blum will be presented the City Builders Award, given to an individual who through their outstanding volunteerism or exemplary actions demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to making our city a better place today and for the future.
The modern architecture of this Chabad house was designed by well acclaimed Barry J. Hobin Architects and Associates. This new $4.5 million facility located on Lamplighters Dr. will allow the activities of OTC to continue growing and serving the Ottawa Jewish community.
