Police officers and a group of Lubavitchers hurried Sunday afternoon to a cave in the old city of Tzfas.
A group of children happened to be playing near the cave when they spotted a pile covered with white linen tablecloths.
The children soon discovered it was the 5 Torah scrolls stolen a week ago from the 150 year-old Tzemach Tzedek Chabad shul in Tzfas.
“A few children ran into the shul and told us they found Sifrei Torah,” a member of the shul’s kollel told COLlive. “We followed them and right away identified one of the Torahs which was not fully covered.”
Police were immediately called to begin an investigation and take fingerprints.
The shul’s long-time gabbai Rabbi Gavriel Marzal was called there as well.
From an initial report, the Torahs were in decent condition and unharmed. A special ceremony will be taking place Monday to welcome back the Torahs to the shul.

IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT THE CHILDREN FOUND THE STOLEN TORAHS. The timing being so auspicious – before MATAN TORAH when we promised that our children will be the guarantors that the TORAH will forever be kept by “AM YISRAEL”. BORUCH HASHEM for the safe return of the precious Sifrei Torah, but we must also be thankful that these precious children are safe! It scares me to think what a person who commits such a crime, would CHAS V’SHOLOM do to a child who chances upon him with the incriminating evidence in that cave! Please explain to your children and… Read more »
