Six additional singers were announced today who will be appearing in a star-studded tribute for a day of joy and unity in appreciation to the Hatzalah volunteers in North America.
Singers Gad Elbaz, Lipa Schmeltzer, 8th Day, Shulem Lemmer, Shmuli Ungar and Cantor Yitzchok Meir Helfgot will be appearing in the online concert to raise funds for the Hatzalah organization.
They are in addition to singers Avraham Fried, Benny Friedman and Mordechai Shapiro who were announced earlier that they will be appearing as well.
The live-streamed concert and telethon as a day of appreciation, inspiration, and entertainment will take place on Lag Baomer.
The 24-hour fundraising drive and concluding concert event is being organized by Crown Heights businessmen and activists, Zalmy Cohen, Berel Junik and Shloime Greenwald, as a continuation of their Miracle Torah project.
The United for Protection Torah, which united over 300,000 Jewish people worldwide for the protection and healing of the Jewish people, has completed one Torah and has begun with a second one. All additional proceeds have been donated to the Hatzalah organization in appreciation for their tireless work on the front lines during the crisis.
The drive will feature a unique donate page for each local branch of Hatzalah, allowing community members to support their volunteers directly. (A complete list of participating Hatzalahs can be found at the end of this article.)
Abraham Wurzberger, Executive Director Chevra Hatzalah of NYC, thanked the three activists on behalf of all Hatzalah organizations in North America whose volunteers continue to dedicate time and resources to saving lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Hatzalah has unfortunately been receiving unprecedented levels of calls. Hatzalah volunteers have never been so overwhelmed in our history,” he said. “In an unsolicited act of true generosity, United for Protection donated all the excess funds from the sale of letters in the first Miracle Sefer Torah to Chevra Hatzalah.
“Now, United For Protection has approached us, pledging to create a 24-hour drive to further support the sacred work of Hatzalah during these historically difficult times.
“United for Protection is to be applauded for their tireless effort to create unity amongst Am Yisroel and for their steadfast support of Hatzalah.
“We kindly encourage all North American, and worldwide, Jewish communities to unite and embrace this special day of unity on Lag Baomer with your full heart and an open hand.
“We believe that this demonstration of unity will hasten the Geulah and bring an end to our suffering on this auspicious day, Lag B’Omer, as in the times of the Talmidim of Rabbi Akiva,” he said.
The concert will be aired on COLlive.com.
